The clutch on my '95 1100GS seems unusually stiff, like Harley Davidson stiff. The throttle also seems a bit stiff too. My last bike was an R850R, same clutch/gearbox, and was a lot lighter as were all the other GS's I've tried.

A 24K service is due so I'll change the cables, but does anyone have any other suggestions as to what would cause it? I bought the bike in April and have done 7K, has always been stiff while I've had it.

Thanks in advance

A lot of Harley Davidson riders experience stiffness, usually when they meet other leather-clad Harley Davidson riders. :ymca

Thanks for that Le Singe.

Anybody else got any suggestions before I change the cables tomorrow?

The clutch on my Adventure is stiff - always has been since I bought it. Fine for normal riding, but uncomfortable if in say a traffic que, where your constantly using the clutch. It just feels as if the spring is too strong. I don't know if its any stiffer than any other clutch, as I haven't ridden another Adventure. TBH I just assumed it was normal, but may lubricate the cable if it gets on my nerves.

Carry a spare cable - it'll come in useful

Can I take it you reckon its one the way out then? If its days are numbered, it will be changed sharpish - I had a clutch cable break on a car once  and wouldn't want a repeat performance, especially on a bike.

If you`re doubting the condition of the clutch cable, why don`t you just detatch it from the operating lever and see how free ( or not ) it feels then ?

You'll be alright you only need it to set off with anyway

clutch cable is to ADV as

sunshine is to Scotland

ie non- existent

( well ok maybe it turns up now and then - but you know what i'm getting at here , shurely ? :) )

Think about it -

if you don't know if you've got an hydraulic clutch, or cable operated clutch, i don't think you should be trying to diagnose your problems
