As they've been no Himalayan 411 posts recently...

I still have my Himalayan, coming up 5 years now, off to Europe next month for another jaunt, still enjoying it and it's an only bike.

Any others here still enjoying their Himmies? There seemed to be a flush of purchases when they first arrived and I think a number have now moved on.

I may move on, but working on how to get on and off the bike with panniers easily as I get less agile with age before that route

Still got mine ( though I only acquired it at the end of 2024). Serviced it myself, farkled it with a few bits and bobs to personalise it, and I use it as my everyday run around as it’s so easy to ride. I did change the battery as it tripped the EML when the original lost a bit of voltage after not riding for 3 weeks when I was away, and now use an optimate when not in use.
I think a lot of original owners changed to the 450 when it came out.
I’ve not ridden a 450 yet, but talking to people who have had both, they are both different bikes, with the 450 more road focused.
I just love the “crudeness “ of the 411 - especially mine which is the camo paint model.

How many enjoyable miles have you covered on it??

Interesting, in what way very different please? Considering one as a 2nd bike

Look at the posts in this section. Several go into the details, published and personal…. But, as a start, look up the horsepower of both bikes. That said, the 450 won’t rip your arms out of their sockets.

Glad you're enjoying it! I have a question if you don't mind - does the RHS pannier base not get rather hot with the exhaust appearing to be:
a) very close to it
b) directed straight at it

Would appreciate your insight! Thanks, Dave.

I had the standard RE panniers on my 411, with the standard and then an aftermarket exhaust.

I had no problems at all.

I also had some third party throw-over pannier bags, which used the RE’s standard pannier frames for support. No problems there either.

Bought a used 411 in 2019 and still got it, that's a personal record for a 2nd bike. I'm always looking to replace it but after having a blast on the Himalayan rally at the weekend I think it is here for another year.

Only 18,500 enjoyable miles so far :) I do seem to ride fewer miles each year! 9,000 in the first year, then a gradual dropping off, but that's more a reflection of me than the bike, these days I go away on it and after a week or so want to come home! Off to Belgium in a few weeks, not far, but should be fun

They are a cheap bike, and I think values took a further knock when the 450 came out. A well used 2019 bike is not worth that much and I think you would regret selling it for what you would get for it. Its a good, Jack of all Trades bike ( or Mountain Goat, as I like to call it)!
If you have the space - keep it!

Not that I've noticed, not had a problem yet, there's no sooty deposits or evidence of heat to the pannier. The only pannier issue as such is that they sit quite high and they're as wide as a wide thing, some agility needed to swing a leg over!

I bought one new in 2020. It’s a great little bike but my, new to me, R850GS arrives tomorrow. If I get on with the GS the mighty 411 mat be sold on as I don’t really have the space for both.

Mine is the last of the E4 so very simple and all the better for it I think.

Had mine from new in June 2021, last of the E4, in Rock Red.

My first brand new bike and I love it.

Haven’t ridden much in the last year because of a knee issue, but it’s a keeper for sure.

The classic-ish styling was a big draw for me, and I have no wish to ‘upgrade’ to the 450.

Last big trip was two weeks across Spain in October ‘24; handled all kinds of weather, terrain, and altitude without a twitch.

There’s a lot of chat about scooters; which I think are great.

That said, a 411 or 450 are both cheaper than a decent scooter,. In 450 guide the bike will perform judy about well as most scooters and at least looks like a motorcycle, if that really bothers anyone. The MPG is possibly better, too…. Again, only a consideration if that bothers you.

I’d recommend one to anyone.

And stuck in the past UK bikers will wave at you rather than treat you like a Deliveroo asylum seeker

If anyone’s day involves fretting over someone waving (or not) at them and / or being upset if they don’t, then they’d better get back in the sea.

We have just returned from an early morning ride to the Super Sausage Café to do some 'window shopping', me on the Himmy 411+SWMBO on her MT07 and on the way back we stopped at Jack's Hill café to do the same. The question arose of which bike would you replace the Himmy with and the answer was non because I choose the roads to suit the Himmy, if I need to cover distance at speed with luggage then I take the GS. But it doesn't stop me looking 😉
