Just been out and spent an hour cleaning the GSA , it still looks dirty the panels are flimsy, awkward to get into gaps/ behind clocks /screen etc, the exhaust behind the valve / cover looks like a 10 yr old bike the switch gear is dirty - engrained almost , can't wipe the boxes as it will scratch the aluminium - a fork seal keeps "misting" dealer tells me it's ok they all do that!!
engine is a bit rattly- even for a GS I think,

17k for a bike and I get shit all up the back of my legs and all over pillions legs!.

The BMW tank bag is marking the tank

on WOT the bike feels a bit hesitant- running lean??
The clutch lever sticks a bit and have to flick it fully off with fingers,
the front brakes have squealed since 400 miles, the rear brake judders at low speed using front brake lightly( yes I usually use he back !) linked brakes?
Number plate is delaminating ,
finding neutral sometimes is a PITA! Speedo over reads by 5-7 mph
, can't read speedo on the move too dam small ,
drone from front end a bit like wind noise but not! Dealer said it was tyres so changed them- still there! I think it's the gap in front fender?
Manual headlight adjuster doesn't seem to do anything?

Heel plates are all scuffed already
(
Put tape on frame to protect it from rubbing)

And to top it off my friend just bought a new GSA TB yesterday- the bike I wanted but dealer said they didn't do a GSA just a GS - 2 months later they are here!! Dealers a cock!

Mines done 2500 miles & 2 months old not impressed!!

Isn't there anything you like about it? At all??

Yes I like a few things but for £17k it wants to be better!!

To help on a couple of your issues

The number plate de laminating is not really the bike or BMW fault the dealer should fix that

The speedo over reading is a good thing and AFAIK all speedos tend to over read then you have no come back on the manufacturer on a speeding conviction

The noise from the front will unless i am mistaken be down to the tyres, I am guessing that you have Anakee 3 on it and they are renowned for making that noise

The paint is very "thin " on these bikes and is no consolation to you as IMO it is poor as is the stuff on the frame. Helicopter tape is your friend for that particular problem although you should not have to.

The other stuff, Squealing brakes etc should be sorted by your dealer pronto

There were threads on here at least 2 months ago regarding the imminent arrival of the TB GSA in fact i think certain bods ordered them over 2 months ago

Yes the plate is down to dealer, it's a small thing but annoying, the brakes I've mentioned and they reckon it's chargeable !

The heel plates are plastic and flimsy, tyres were annakee's but now has pilot 4 which are much better, changed them at 1000 miles , didn't see the tb thread , was a little rushed by the dealer as they wanted to hit target for month- I wanted it asap and said only did GS in triple black ! Plus I wanted it without gearshift assist and that would take a while to find a bike without it as they all came with even tho it's an option!
I'll be going back for a chat with dealer!

What ?

Sqealing brakes at 2500 miles !!!

I would be changing dealers pronto. There are plenty out there that want your sevice and warranty work

Won't be using dealer for service work anymore going to local specialists

Local specialist using gen parts , vat registered keeps the warranty - block exemption rules plus I trust his work

I agree, I think the component quality is shocking considering the price. Plastics are cheap and scratchy, paint is thin and metal edges sharp. No love and attention....which is why I went back to the TC.

I have a 2006 GS 1200. I love the bike it rides very well, corners like its on rails, feels as confident in the wet as the dry, its comfortable on long trips (200 plus miles), fuel economy is ok and its been my dream bike for a long time and it took a long time to get it.
The down sides are as bold as the upsides to this bike. The paint is crap and dosnt seem to have gotten any better on newer bikes, the rear brake is about as good as a push bike brake,
the switch gear is a bit of an aquired taste, and in general the finnish is just not great.
For a huge twin the 1200 is niether fast nor loaded with buckets of torque, it has more than enough power to do what it was designed to do, and do it all day long. But it is the weakest 1200 I have ridden.
I took a 2016 triple black out for a prolonged test ride of four days a month or so back. It is a more refined bike but still the paints bad and the general finnish is poor. The one I took out had 1500 miles on it and the paint was already looking a bit worse for wear.
That all said and done I dont regret buying the 1200, infact im still happy every time I get on the bike. I have how ever lost the rose tinted specs that I was wearing for the years I lusted after one.
I would like to say id buy a new 1200 but in truth I dont know if I would. For the 17k the new bike costs I can get a Honda Africa twin brand new with every accesorie I want and still have some change in my pocket.

I agree with what you're saying. I've had a 12GS on an 07 plate, a 09 GSA (MU) and now a 63 plate GSA TB (TU). I had the choice of a LC but decided on the TB instead. The finish is good, nice engine and the blackness...... Oh the blackness lol.

I can't comment too much on the LC as I made my choice and I've not owned one, but I bet for every bad one there are countless good ones that people own, we live in an age where you normally only hear about gripes as opposed to the good!

I remember some years back the great 1150 vs 1200 debate when they were first released....

In short I'm very happy with my Hex TB but in the future who knows, I love the look of the Lc's and as time passes things normally improve.

The SC and TC suddenly become what they should have been when remapped at Hilltop. fitted with AF-XIEDs to shift the Lambda values is another option but the map would get my vote. I have a Power Commander which does the job but is very much a 3rd place option.

Sorting out the ECU maps really does pay dividends. Presumably an aircooled big twin just can't make power and meet EU regulations like a water-cooled 4 banger can do.
