Still no joy…….

Guys/gals, I’ve already had some support from the forum on this subject but after trying everything (I think) it still won’t bloody start!

It’s a 2014 R9T with 3k on the clock. Stood outside for a year under a cover.

Went to start it and battery was dead - changed the battery for a new one at the same spec (200CCA).

On pressing the starter button the motor spigot shoots out (you can hear and feel it) but won’t turn the engine.

Relay changed just to be on the safe side.

I’ve had the plugs out and I’ve managed to turn the engine over in 6th proving that it’s not seized.

I’ve had the starter motor out and bench tested it with 12v and the spigot shoots out AND it revolves (as it should).

It’s as if it just hasn’t got the balls to turn the engine over?

Any ideas as I’m somewhat scratching my head now?

I always thought starter motors either worked or they didn’t so could it be partially knackered from being stood for a year?

Poor connection on the battery earth or the fat red wire going to the starter?

Pop a plug out each side to remove compression and see if that helps.

My r9 only just turns over with a good battery. It only needs to turn once and it's away (always been the same) Try jumping off a car battery (not literally )

I'm with @cookie. Leads/connections or, failing that, solenoid/brushes - unfortunately, a no-load test won't help analyse the problem.

Didn't the early bikes have a weak starter anyway, 0.9kw, rather than 1.2kw?

It’s as if it just hasn’t got the balls to turn the engine over? Ground and feed connections will do this (As will dropped magnets! Which can slow the spin speed but not lock the starter

Use an external battery and jump leads

Positive to the top terminal and the Negative to a good ground on the bike Shiny exhaust bolts are really good and a favourite of mine

What happens then ?? Positive ON first , OFF last

Maybe use a power-pack jump starter which will have a great deal more 'ooooomph' than your battery.
That may be all your motor needs to remind it of its job?

A mate of a mate recently had something similar on his R-Nine T and when he removed the starter motor found that he had missing teeth on his starter ring gear
