:eek:Only paid a little more than HALF of that for a 24000 mile service. You sir have not only been robbed but you've been bent over and thoroughly bum fucked by the thieving bastards.................but i guess you must have asked for a price before you took it in.:blast

OK, so here goes.

I wonder how many of the GS riders actually use the bike for the purpose it was designed, as I see loads for sale "Never riden off road", so why did they not buy an RT.

Or am I missing something?

Well there's a brave question to be asking, and one I ask myself every time I see a question about buffeting :blast

The GS has to be one of the most pretentious bikes out there if it's not ridden off road. Don't let that worry you though, this site is full of those that reckon Harleys are ghey :blast

At the end of the day it's just a motorcycle and it doesn't define you. Buy what you want, wear what you want, ride like you want to as often as you want to. If you can't be an individual then just buy a car :rob

RT to a GS

Hi been lurking on this forum for a long time now but never posted.
Just did a similar thing swapped an 11 plate RT SE for an 11 plate GS. Why!
I tour Europe once a year, even then you stop every 100 to 150 miles or so, and when we get there we use the back roads!

In the UK every road is rutted, the RT was a fantastic bike but best on long motorway runs. The GS is as good if not better performance and is a lot more fun to ride and it rides the rutted roads in the Peaks, North Yorkshire and the Dales so much better than the RT did.

I also do a bit of ROSPA Tutoring and over the last year three of my riders have had GS’s , you can see the difference in ride quality on the poor road surfaces around Yorkshire. If you want the economy angle RT 41mpg GS 52mpg?

But each to their own, one size does not fit all.

52mpg. How do people get these figures?? Are you all pushing it with the engine off? Mine stays pretty much 42mpg regardless of motorway/a road riding.

There are riders who unconsciously eak out more mpg just by their smooth economical riding style. Then there's the others who aren't. :augie

Withdrawal symptoms

Re; fuel economy, my 2010 RT recently did 56 mpg on the way down to Geneva from Lancashire with cruise control set at 80mph. More usually it returns 53. I ride it because of its electric screen - and the cruise is dead handy (though there are simpler ways to achieve the same end). My 2009 GSA never did more than about 42mpg, no matter how I rode it.

The thing is, I found the GSA to be the perfect all round bike as many have already said on this thread. The RT sits in the garage between trips far more than the GSA ever used to , because the RT is not as much fun to explore the Lancashire and Cumbrian lanes. When the RT goes in for service I blag a ride out - not on a 1600GT - but on whatever 1200GSA they have around. So it looks like I will be voting for another 1200GSA (my fourth) before too long. :thumby: As to the competition - I just don't rate any of it:hide
