Stop Looking in My Computer.

Right I just had a look and I already had windows firewall fitted and running. Just run the spy bot thing and it said 747 bad products already blocked and 9473 additional protection possible so I imunised them. (whatever that means)

It only found about twenty problems, quite a few from something called DoubleClick, on the Search and Destroy scan so I got rid of those as well.

I feel so much better now, I don't feel that I have to wash my hands now after using a contaminated laptop any more.

No one has, it's a "bring a bottle open house affair" :bounce1

But you must understand that a man of my breeding does not attend any function to which one is not invited in writing, on a scallop-edged card, of not less than 3gsf, in emboldened relief script.

Then again I could come and go on the wazz. But I haven't got a bottle open house affair to bring. To be honest I didn't realise it was a "pampas grass" type do.

It's dead casual, cheesy wine tasting easy going style, slacks and hush puppies are di rigor. Come as you are. But don't even look at the Shrimp Vol-Au-Vents or you'll be stuck on the crapper for the rest of July :thumb

1. Zonealarm (free edition)
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload2.jsp

It's the firewall that stops people from breaking into your machine, and that stops progs on your machine already (we'll come to that in a minute) from sending info out (including the c**t emals to everyone :D)

Install it (making sure it's the free version) and answer the questions......(how many pc's is it for personal use etc) and go through the tutorial it offers.

As soon as it's done and you do anything on the PC, you're likely to get message boxes up saying 'xyz prog has asked to access the internet, allow/deny??'

Fanum,

I know this thread is really old, but thanks so much for posting it ... even a non-PC type like me managed to follow it :bow . Perhaps I can trouble you with a quick query ...

I also used Norton for ages and yesterday got round to dumping it and installing AVG, zone alarm & Defender. Now I have a small problem and I think Zone Alarm (ZA) is to blame ....

I work on a laptop which, when I plug into the network at work, synchronises all my documents with a copy stored on the server. Since installing ZA, I get the message "xxxPC is unavailable for reconnect". I guess ZA has closed the connection and I can't get it to ask me if I want to allow the connection or not. If I go to file manager I can see the other PC and access it no problem.

Any ideas? Tried looking in the ZA settings, but not sure what I can change and what not.

Dale (clearly not in the IT business :) )
