Anyone any experience of using these?

http://www.busters-accessories.co.u...es/Puncture-Repair-and-Prevention/Stop-and-Go

Thinking about buying one to keep in a pannier.

Seems from the instructions on the US Stop N Go website that they're used "dry", but I wonder if a bit of rubber cement might be a good idea?

Looks to be a bit easier to use and maybe a bit more durable than the BMW rubbery pluggy loopy things.

.............I know they're just a get you home / to a proper tyre repair facility.

Comments please - and I'll try not to offend anyone :)

...........I've got one - just waiting for a puncture to come along!!

Yes - Ive used mine on a number of occassions and all have been successful. Don't use any cement or glue - that is not how it works.

A friends' Karoo that I repaired kept the plug for the life of the tyre.

Was going to buy some too but a touring mag here recently reviewed them and came to the conclusion they were rubbish. They said unless the puncture was straight into the tyre, they didn't work at all and you were better off staying with the poke in, glued type. They look the business though. :nenau

The bulk - if not all - of my riding is on-road, so the most likely puncture for me to pick up is going to be the nail / screw in the tyre, with - hopefully - a nice simple hole in the treadwall, rather than a tear in the sidewall of the tyre that I'd be likely to pick up from a sharp rock off-road.

On that basis, I'm hoping that they'll be just the job, but I'm still open for advice.........................

Exactly why we use the rat-tail type repair stuff...its a bit more of a palaver to use, but its just as effective for a 'straight' repair, but a LOT more adaptable for angled, uneven or larger holes.

The Rat tails are better than the BMW hoopy shaped mushrooms as well. :)

I used my "stop and go" kit last year on the front wheel of my mercedes estate car. Still in the tyre and it hasn't lost any pressure yet. :thumb2

For general punctures the Tyre Plugger is brilliant and I've had a 100% success rate repairing punctures from Morocco to Mongolia, consider them a permanent repair:thumb

No good really for cuts or big splits in the tyre wall though, in fact even Rat's tails are crap for that as it means it's time for a tube:mad:

I treat the BMW/Tip Top loopy glued in whatsits as permanent. Picked up a bent nail last friday that caused two punctures in the rear tyre, one from the point and the other from the edge of the nail head wearing through the carcass between blocks. Two loopey glued in whatsits later the job's a goodun. That is the 5th and 6th plugs that I've used over three tyres and I've ridden thousands of miles on the repairs at my normal pace no probs.

As I've just ordered a Stop'n'Go set I hope that they're as good.

One thing that I would suggest is adding a pair of small grips to the standard toolkit to pull objects out of the tyre.

They seem to make a kit with and one without the CO2 vials. Do you guys carry an electric pump with you or have the CO2 vials instead? The vials look cool.:D

Small electric pump taken out of a cheapo halfords unit. Been using it for 8 years now with a fag lighter/BMW plug on it to go into the power take off.

I have these kits and used them in anger twice - both times with good results. I have one kit under the seat on my K11 which has a Slime compressor as it all fits easily in the tail storage area. Another kit lives in the Sargent rear seat compartment on the GS12 but there's not enough room for a compressor so that has the CO2 cartridges (7 in total). Both bikes have small LED worklamps that can plug into the accessory socket in case I need to use them at night.

Tyre plugger and Slime compressor saved me a lot of trouble on Easter Monday in remotest Donegal. First time I'd used one so probably took an hour or so before we were back on the road but compared with the alternative of waiting for recovery and then trying to find an open tyre place to fix it doesn't bare thinking about!

I rarely went out without them before but certainly won't in future :thumb

Repair your punctures at your own risk

I have used the tyre plugger with huge success and am deeply impressed.

Like anything, RTFM and have a practice session when you don't need to use it. One of the keys to success is to shoot the mushroom through the applicator at least once in order to soften it up before putting it in a tyre.

Kit arrived today. I went for the basic kit, without the CO2 canisters as I've got half a dozen of those from other sources. Seems to be good quality. Nice small pack size.

.................fingers crossed I'll never need it!
