Hi

Have had my first BMW for couple of weeks now, 2006 GS1200 Adventure.

Got new Continental Attack dual purpose tyres as part of the deal.......................

Is a very slight weave/oscilation at about 70/80 a characteristic of the bike ?

Would tyre pressures/turning the big knob in or out help this ??

Please tell me I'll get used to the indicators.....

I had the cont attacks on my old Vstom never had any trouble.

My GS has never had any problems with weave ,which is usualy assocated with aerodynamics

Have you changed the rear box ?

Tyre pressures are alway important, check 'em. Yes, you'll get used to the indicators, but you'll alarm a few people hitting the horn until you do.

I'd also check the tyre pressures and that the rear suspension pre-load is at an appropiate setting. At least half for a lightweight person, bit more for the normal GS riders physique.

I have the Conti's on my 1150, had to have the front one ballanced twice but there's still a slight wobble at 20mph, rock solid after that

mines like morts, but a bit of a weave fully loaded, but feck all really, prob down to me not checking tyre pressures more than anything, new uns can weave very slightly till they got a hundred miles or so on em though

I traded in a Vstrom 1000 for the GS, still kinda missing the old girl at the moment but I'm sure the GS is a grower in the long term

The wobbles annoying me on the motorway but the very worst it could be is a new set of tyres, I'll just have to get out on it more and wear them out quicker, in the meantime I'll fiddle with the tyre pressures and adjust the preload to a setting better suited to someone over familiar with the Ginsters range of service station offerings

tell you what. Ive just traded from a strom and while the GS is a better bike it does reinforce what a great bike the strom is for the money

My 06 VStrom was valued at about half my 56 GSA ..........Is it half the bike...........I don't think so.

Then again the Strom had a look only it's mother could love

I'm happy with my purchase but worried/paranoid about reliabilty comments a lot of people on forums talk about but I guess thats the inter-web for you !!

If it lets me down I might well change my opinion.................

Never had any problem with weave, tho - I'd get the balance checked. Just bought a set of Contis from Busters so I hope they're all right.
As for reliability - Just enjoy the bike. I'm on my third 1200 and have covered about 30000 miles between the three of them and only had a few minor problems with one of them

I've had the balance checked at Pidcock (Nottingham)

Guy intimated he had had this problem with Conti's before.

Hoping it will just go away as they wear, it's not too bad just a bit annoying on a new (to me) bike

i'm on my second set of road attack and never had any hassle with them...but u do need to run em....i found the first 200 miles a bit scary as they were slippin in the wet.. after that they were awesome.........stick like shit to a shovel....

Five years on and I still detest the indicators - even BMW have finally seen the light and now put conventional setups on thei newest models.

Re the weave: you need to get more weight on the front. You can do this by taking stuff out of the topbox, more preload on the back or less on the front - or my recommendation a combination of all three. All but the fattest manage to dial it out !!!

Or in my case you grow to get used to the indicators. I don't think I'll ever like them.

Mine doesn't weave that I know off, but then I rarely get above 70mph, partly because it is illegal, but mainly because its far too noisy/windy to ride at those speeds in a straight line.

You might also want to check the front preload as too much will shift the weight back a bit, which wont help the steering (spot the non-technical person).

Enjoy the bike, it takes a while to get your head around it, but its a great bike to ride (apart from the indicators).

08 gsa with conti trail attacks and yes i get a vibration /weave at around 70-80 mph. done 2800 mls and unfortuantely it isnt going away. i'm switching when i've got a bit more wear from them (tight arse i kinow). i've put it down to faulty tyre but seems like there's a few of us out there with the same problem.

My 05 1200GS came with a new set of Conti TAs when I bought it last year and got a new rear now. I have never had any weave or high speed instability on the bike with these tyres, apart from when the rear picked up a nail and went flat quite quickly. 90+ cruising today and completely stable.
