Stranded, need 17mm socket!

Hi all, just set off on my usual Sunday night journey back to London, decided to go A303 for a change. Got to just past turning for Yeovilton air base and started to feel a wobble, stopped and found my back wheel nuts are all loose!!!!

Considering I haven't done any work to the back wheel for ages im a bit shocked, thinking maybe someone has it in for me!

Anyway enough guff, anyone around the area got a 17mm socket I can use so I can carry on my journey, it's getting dark and I'm scared :S

If you are of a mind to be my saviour, pm me and hopefully I'll pick it up on this here phone....

The tool kit has a 17mm wheel nut spanner and a sliding extension so you can get some torque on it. .

Only thing I haven't got on the bike is a spanner/socket big enough.....you live and learn

If you can get someone in a car to stop (show a leg) then they may have a suitable spanner for changing the spare wheel as many cars have 17mm nuts

Ye, thought of that, stopped a polo, driver said he had a wheel brace then laughed at me and drive off....

Call local Police force on non-emergency 101 - they may have a local car which could help you track a spanner down. Don't let them fob you off with a number for a local garage - ask for a patrol if possible.

Bowed to the inevitable and called vehicle rescue direct, only took the policy out this morning, hopefully this spanner will soon be on the road!

They're the Police, not the friggin AA he's not in any immediate danger by the sounds of things, he's got a mechanical problem with this bike.

Hmmm, interesting

I found this thread when searching for "loose wheel nuts" (well, bolts really) as all four of mine where loose when I got to work this morning.

I really only noticed it when I tried to back the bike into it's parking space and it was reluctant to move. I checked the tyre pressure and that was OK - this left me wondering what was the problem - and then I noticed I could see rather more of the black cones under the heads of the bolts than I expected - and all four turned out to be finger-loose!

I DID have my toolkit with me so I tightened up to "grunt - that feels good 'n' tight" torque settings. I can torque them properly when I get home.

A bit scary worrying about what might have been - mebbe it would be wise to make this part of the daily check now. You know, the one I always and religiously perform before setting off anywhere.
