The ABS system does the usual checks on starting, system clunks on moving away and seems OK. Some distance further on (this seems to vary) the system clumks very quietly and the ABS lights start flashing in fault mode. After resetting the system, it self checks OK but goes again after a mile or so. Not sure yet if its associated with a faulty rear sensor as it seems to fail after rear whell hits bumps - could be failty connection? I've checked the teeth on the sensor ring etc and the're OK. I'm stuck! Did recently replace brake lines with steel braided ones, though brakes were great for some time before this problem occured. Any ideas?

Have you checked the sensor gaps, are they within the allowed spec both front/rear?

When replaced the brake lines, did you removed all the air from the system? There LOADS of air needing to be removed when replacing the break lines, I had to pump approx 0.5L of break oil through the new front break lines to end the bubbling.

Thanks for feedback guys, I've checked the sensor gaps and they're fine. Tisklonaut, I did bleed for ages, at least 1 litre! I'll have to try and get a readout light rigged up and see what the fault code is.

check

the level of brake fluid in the reservoirs, I seem to recollect low fluid level can have a similar effect.
