Strange 'LampF' problem.

2008 GSA owned since new. Lots of miles. Standard headlamp bulb.

Start up bike in a morning and 'LampF' shows for about 5-10 seconds then the bulb lights up.

Ride to work. Half way there... LampF again but a few minutes later it resets itself

Used to have HID fitted and took it off as had similar problems, reverted to a bulb and it was OK for a while (6 Months ish) but now this

Any suggestions guys?

It's all about voltage, and could be an early warning sign of a battery issue.

To test see if the lampf warning goes off if the engine is revving.

I always get Lampf (I have HIDs) unless -

Turn off anything not required on startup ie. Heated grips, spots, GPS.
Turn on ignition and wait until check sequence has completed.
Start engine with a small addition of throttle, and maintain (not rev the nuts off it) for a couple of seconds.

Then carry on as usual.

If the Canbus detects a low voltage it registers this as a fault and disables the headlight. Useful

It's possible that there is a poor connection somewhere

You talk about the warning light coming on and off whilst riding; I'm assuming your headlight remains on

If so, what's happening is the electronics on the bike are looking for a rise in resistance to know that a bulb has blown. There does not have to be a break in the circuit to trigger the warning light. A corroded or weak connection is enough to cause this to happen.

I've an '05 bike with the wondefully designed rear light unit that collects all the road crud and corrodes like feck. My warning light is always coming on but the bulb carries on working fine............give all the contacts a clean and electrical grease and it's ok again for six months then on it come again and repeat the procedure ad nauseum...........

I had this recently. I assumed it was a spurious LAMPR! reading. But closer inspection of bulb showed one of the filaments had blown (Canbus being clever and redirecting current). New bulb sorted it.

When the LampF re-appears during a ride the headlamp deffo drops out. Interesting stuff.

I am on the original battery at nearly 3 1/2 years and well over 40,000m so may get that checked..

Tonight he LampF is on all the time and I've no headlamp. Will check he bulb just in case but for it to be intermittent seems strange.
