Straw poll please

I totally understand the "self maintenance " and also the likelihood of corrosion on the newer bikes ..... BUT, genuine question .... How many of you have ridden it ? Be honest...

I have......................awesome it was, truly superb. If only my meagre existence would stretch to having the cash to put up for a PCP deal I'd be on one like a cat on a kipper.

An awesome a bike as it may well be,I actually have no desire to ride one, certainly no desire to own one.
Having had one in my workshop and undressed the poor thing after one of our members crashed it,it made me realise a lot.
Bumw are just selling shit to aspirational peeps,it's a massive adventure bike band wagon, all about the ££££££.
Their cars are no better.
For me the buck stops at the twin cam,
Plastic fantastic.
Bmw should have had there arse kicked with the yam super ten,but didn't,maybe the Africa twin may teach a lesson, but I doubt it.
Aspiring young peeps want to have a beemer.
Each too there own:cool:
I want to love the modern stuff but think the point has been missed

Nope, I'm hanging on to my 1150 and spent the saving on a 250 for the places it doesn't work so well. If I did change the 1150 for a new bike I'm not sure it would be a WC.

No, just bought an 1150 GSA, in preference to a 1200.
They're simpler, more reliable and better built.

Me ......

Ridden both WC GS & GSA

Owned a 2008 1200 GSA with all the gadgets like ESA & ABS/TC, a few years ago

Didn't like the gadgets - too intrusive & unnecessary

Piss off you wouldn't, stop teasing him

No, not because I don't like the WC as I've never ridden one, just because my 1150 is good fun and does all I need in my dotage...:rob

OK I'll come clean and say in all honest that the WC is everything I hate about modern bikes. No soul, no feel, no quality, no style. They are too complicated and are designed to be a cash cow for the dealers. They are a throw away motorcycle.

The purity of older bikes is what attracts me (hence I bought the T595 with none of the elecktrickery). Owners of the WC gabble on about how quick they are compared to the wheezy 1150, but the 17 year old T595 will easily give the WC a run for it's money.

The best of the oil cooled bikes is actually the 850 imho, but I do like the 6 speed box of the 1150. A GS should not be about how fast it is, or even how sporty it feels. A GS should be something far more subtle in how it displays it's capabilities.

In female terms the 1150 is a classy Milf

and the WC is:

Agree with all of that:thumby:

Can't believe you don't agree with the Vicky Pollard analogy JB, I thought that was bang on the mark :D

I love my garage now, 1150GSA in really nice condition and a British 916 in lovely condition. 2 totally different machines, but both have character, ability and style in the real world. Neither is particularly fast, but deliver fun in spades.

Just need one of these now for town :D

Spot on.. the 1200 GSA looks like a cartoon bike to me, parked next to one recently and it looked fucking ridiculous, every bit of bling that could be fitted, was fitted, I felt embarrassed looking at it.

1100

I currently own 4 bikes the slowest and at the moment least valuable one is my 1100GS but if I had to keep only one it would be the GS, I think that say's it all.

Dont think i' would go for another bmw, gs or otherwise, my 91 cbr1000 never broke down, ditto with my zzr1100, my gs seems to enjoy breaking down alot more, my son eats strawberry shoelaces which are tougher than my gs's wiring. I go out for a ride and wonder if it will make it home. Expected more from a bmw.

Only ever had an R100GS breakdown on me, all my 1150's have been faultless. Tell a lie, I had to replace an alternator belt in Valencia, took me 20 minutes and gave me chance to have a beer at the bar. A well looked after, well maintained 1150 is a brilliant bike, you have obviously bought a dog.

I've only had my 1150 for four days and I don't think I'll be getting rid anytime soon. The WC is the right name for the 1200 cos it looks crap. All cheap plastic and silvery bits. The one thing I can't understand is people moaning about the performance. The first time I opened the taps in second gear I thought my eyes had gone round the back of my head! But then my last bike only had 60bhp and 44 lb ft. Everything's relative. And how often do you drive flat out anyway?

Spot on George's Dad.Top speed is academic unless you live you Germany and/or have a death wish. There is (or should be) so much more to motorcycling than just going fast all the time. I bought my 1150 GSA in September last year having spent the previous 6 years riding a 135bhp CBR1000. At 57, I think I've found the bike I will keep until I hang up my boots. Without gettting too Californian about it, the GSA has rekindled my love affair with motorcycles. It doesn't accelerate as fast (but fast enough for an old fart who wants to keep his licence) and is a good 25-30mph slower on the top end but it feels alive after the clinical efficiency of Mr Honda's finest and is just so much fun. At 6'3", the riding position is perfect, the exhaust note (Remus Revolution) stirs my soul and every ride is an adventure, even if its just a quick spin to the shops. The other weekend, the forecast was good and I set the alarm for 5.00 and took a quick blast from home here in Herefordshire to breakfast in Aberystwyth. Temperature was only 5 degrees (God bless heated grips) but I had the sublime A483 from Crossgates to Newtown all to my self. Crisp clear sunshine, a clear road, a willing bike and a hearty breakfast at the other end; who needs more?

13 years of GSA1150 ownership, with 12 of those years coupled up with a standard 1150 - I did try a 1200, once. It was booked out for 2 hours - I was back within 20 minutes. It offered me nothing over the 1150, except a denuded bank balance and lower status.

The 1150 was the last great motorcycle. There can never be another to match it, because it would simply anger the accountants that run business now. Either that, or it would be far too expensive. I would buy an airhead 100GS before I sat astride another 1200. Wretched things - they might be faster, all show and no substance. I would like to see how many survive the 20 year test, compared to the 1150 and how many will clock 200,000 miles - plenty of 1150s have and they all could.

Nope, sorry. I rate the 1150 over the newer machines, especially the current models.

Mr & Mrs Jones dont live next door, so I dont have to keep up with them!
