Straw poll please

I'm at 90,000mls on my 1150 ADV, (all by me) I've ridden the new ones, and for me they lack that 'X factor'. I've also talked to more than a few owners of the 1200s and the one thing in common they all say is the 1150 is better quality. I'll ride mine till I, or it, shuffle off this mortal coil. :rob

NO, NO, NO and I say again NO.

Might have got a TC as "another" but not instead of, but didnt want to pay the cost. But the new WC is a pig ugly bike even by pig ugly bike standards, the GSA is ok but the standard bike just looks fucking stupid with those radiator covers

Took a toilet for a (escorted) ride out last year, lots of minor niggles and things I didn't like....a few things I did like as well.
It most certainly lacks that 'hewn from solid granite' feeling of the 1150. It also for me seems as if BMW have traded quality for technology.....lots of cleverbollockary behind the scenes but as a whole it all seemed to be a bit cheap and bland....apart from the motor (which to be honest was lovely) you could close your eyes and it felt like being sat on a 10 grand V-Strom, not a £17,000 'premium' bike.
There was the slight possibility that if I liked the bike, sold everything I own and has a winter of scrimping and saving I could possible just have been able to afford a base model GS. Nothing on that test ride made me think that was worth a second thought.
Sorry BMW, but despite what the folk that have paid out 15-20k might argue, your targeting different buyers now that the ones on this part of the forum.

I own and 1100GS, 1100GS with carbs, a R65LS and an R80. These bikes are a ball:beerjug:

The WC is hyper marketed dung that may be great to ride but never a keeper due to their build quality and electronic complexity.

If you want to go traveling, then buy something you have a chance of fixing at the side of the road.:aidan

So the answer is No

Ridden an 1150 but none of the 1200s and I wouldn't swap my 1100 for any of them. To be honest, If it wasn't for the pillion capability I would probably sell my 1100.

Thanks for all the replies, I guess it may be time to explain the post.
I already had a '14 plate Gs in the garage, with shift assist pro etc etc, but couldn't get away from hankering after an 1150GS, Anyway, one popped up for sale in the Blue and White striped colour that I like, so I went to have a look at it. Fastidiously cared for, with Touratech luggage, HID lights, Tank cover etc etc but otherwise standard, I eventually gave in to temptation and bought it !!
I've not had it long enough to know for sure, though have put over 1000 miles on it in 10 days, I'm rather liking it.
So for now, I have both, but in the future, if I had to get rid of one, I have suspicion already which one it will be !!

Hopefully I'll be down at the Devon weekend on the 1150, see you there !!

P.S. Thanks to John the previous owner for looking after it so well in the past, I hope he enjoys his new bike ......

Quite apart form the childish design, the tacky plastic trims, the cheaply manufactured substandard Chinese parts, the vulnerable radiators, the poor quality paint, the electronic complexity, the draggy clutch and the nasty notchy gearbox the thing that really steered me away from the Bogger (WC) was the idiocy of placing cam chains above the gearbox and in the same cavity so a chain failure locks the transmission downstream of the clutch. Unutterable stupidity and may yet result in somebodies death. BM are lucky that it hasn't already as far as I'm aware. That fault is compounded by the early models sloppy assembly which did in fact result in several low mileage chain failures and locked transmissions.

I had a chance to try a 1200 triple black a few years back when I took my 850 in for an oil sight glass whilst away on holiday.
I'd admit the 1200 is a cracking bike to ride, but has lost most of the character of the earlier models. For the masses this is why it's selling so well, it's a very good bike for Mr Average. The ford escort(OK...a focus:D) of bikes. Designed to be easy to ride by anyone. From that day I named it 'the sanitised gs'.
I took my 1150 round to the mate I bought it off the other day, he replaced it with a triple black, but did admit he'd rather have kept the 1150.

I'd say that our local club has nearly a 50/50 ownership of BMWs to any other brand, with a good number of WC GSs and RTs along with a handful of K13 and K16s. What always amazes me is how the vast majority of owners say they're bikes are brilliant, until you press them when they then admit to having had issues. But because they're usually sorted under warranty during a service they don't see it as a problem:blast. As most of them don't own each bike long enough for them to go out of warranty they never see it as a problem.
Bmw have got it made tbh, certainly for the next 5-10 years I reckon. But once these less sturdy models drop into the cheaper end of the market the could change!!

It's highly unlikely I'll ever own one, unless a bargain falls in my lap, I'll certainly never buy a servo model, unless again it's a bargain and possibly in need of a servoectomy. Same goes for anything with esa.

Blue and White is the best colour in the 1150GS. Red and White was the best colour in the 1100GS

Your good health to enjoy:beerjug:
