Hi Folks, I have had a Street Pilot 111 for some years without any problems. However this week the card reader started giving problems and I get and error message telling me to replace the reader. I have contacted Garmin but the say they no longer provide this reader.
Is there a solution to this problem other than purchasing a new GPS.

Any advice much appreciated.

you should be able to connect the device (SP111) to your computer using the RS232 lead provided and see the card in your file explorer. indeed if you use mapsource it will copy maps, rotes and waypoints this way too, a bit slow at 96bds though ;)

Many thanks for the advice. I am doing as you suggested but it is slow (approx 4 hours). However it will do untill I decide whether or not to go for a Zumo 660.

Niall....don't be led astray by shiny (and expensive) toys....

I'm sure the Zumo is very nice, but I suspect that 90% of owners don't use 50% of it's capabilities....

If I were after another GPS, I'd probably go for my third Quest I..available as a complete kit for about £80 on ebay.

I have an MP3 player for music.....I have had a phone wired in to my autocom before but after two or three calls, I decided that was too gimmicky and unnecessary, as well as leading to a lack of concentration on my part.

In short, I want a GPS that is just a GPS, but which is very very good at that function.....for me, it boils down to a Quest 1 or a Colorado....the 'shiny shiny farkle' brigade will no doubt be along to try and justify there latest expensive acquisition, but have a think for yourself what you really want a gps to do for you :thumb

Hi

If you do consider replacing your SPIII would you consider selling me the power lead that goes from the unit to the power socket on the bike.
Cheers
Mick

Hi Fanum , sorry for delay in responding to your post. I agree fully with you re the complexity of the Zumo . I am not interested in making phone calls / storing music or photos. All I want is a GPS that will allow me to

a) plan and store routes on my laptop before transferring to GPS.
b) Allow me to assign waypoints
c) Show local hotels /attractions etc.
d) Give directions.
e) Transfer between bike and car.

I will now look at the Quest and see if it is suitable.

Many thanks.
Niall

Hi Madmick, I am still using the Streetpilot even though the data transfer is taking hours. If I go ahead and purchase new GPS I will contact you re power cable.
