Hey guys,

I have in my possesion a StreetPilot 111 which I bought from gpswarehouse.co.uk about 3 years ago.

I am finding it awkward to use in the car as the sloping dashboard is not conducive to allow me to do so.

I have used the GPs to good use on many away days and trips to scotland and such like. (My last trip to Scotland ended with she and I having a nasty off)

So, if anyone would lik eto purchase it from me please feel free to PM asking for more details.
The kit was a "Newly Overhauled" Item with Ram rackets for both car and bike.A bare ended wiring to fit to bike battery and the mapping I have is from Version 7 to 9 ( i think) will verify if anyone is interested.

I will be looking to purchase a more car friendly one with monies obtained so please, don't be stingy with your best offers.

TIA..

sounds a bit extreme unless you're wanting to upgrade to something newer.

The SPIII cradle attached to a bean bag which sat on the dash. To adapt or mount using your existing bike bits, simplest is twist lock suction cup RAP-224-1 with diamond base RAM-B-238 then move from bike to car.

If you do not want to attach onto screen by suction lock method but still use on dash without making holes, then same answer but add RAP-350 adhesive rose pad base.

Pat, best put it into the For Sale section and it'll need a price on it ;)

Ram Man.

Thanks for your input on this.

I do have the car mount you mentioned but the car (Peugeot 306) dash slopes forward.IF i have the beanbag mount above the air blowers then it is perched precariously and has fallen off when I go round corners. She -who-loves-me's knees can verify that statement. If I put it further down the slope the antenna is touching the screen and at an angle. It also slides and moves along the dash. Not very safe there.

Bryn,

I thought putting it in this section would get more response as in the for sale place one would actually have to be looking for a Sp3 gps.

Thanks both

I have a 2720 with bean bag mount and it's pretty secure in the same place on my 306. Under severe provocation it might move but that would be far more than SWMBO would ever bear as a passenger, maybe yours has a former life as a rally navigator:rolleyes: Not sure if there's a great deal of difference between the design of the bean bags between these models. Have you tried a small piece of Wunda Web under the mount to stop it slipping?

As I have no idea what the 2720 looks like I can only assume it is smaller than my Sp111. Friends of mine refer it it a brick. (I'm sure that's what they say and are refferring to the GPS and not me:augie)

I thank you for your idea and have got something similiar to the wonder web stuff you refer to. I bought a sheet of the stuff to use on back of bike to carry stuff without it falling off. Changed bike which had panniers and didn't need it.:blagblah:blagblah

My beanbag mount is "shaped" like a cross with 4 areas of rubber underneath.
Is that similiar to yours.?:nenau

Hey Bumpkin,

We seeem to have the same beanbag but mine only gas the Garmin logo on the plastic base, not on the bag itself.

My SP3 seems longer in the bag too. As mentioned before, the antenna touches the windscreen when the unit is mounted above the central air vents the dash. Any lower, towards the screen then the antenna is at an angle giving false readings as to which is north (I think).

Thanks for your continued input on this.

Be Safe.

Now have it in front of me and it's 8x7 inches across the cross with only a Garmin logo in the plastic base like yours.

Does yours seem to have an aluminium base under the material. Mine was quite bent when I got it, flattening this out helped grip and stability on the dash. The 2720 has a ratchet as part of the unit so you can angle the unit on the bean bag to the best position (the 306 dash slopes toward the windscreen quite a lot). The antenna is integral on the 2720, size and weight shouldn't be greatly different.

I usually turn the bean bag so two legs of the cross touch the raised part of the dash close to the vents/windscreen and then swivel the GPS in the mount to the correct angle before locking it with the lever.

Not sure if there's a any variance in the design of the dash on the 306 over the years, mine is a 2000 Meridian 1.6 auto.

With my Quest I needed an external antenna as the metallic, heat reflective, coating in/on the windscreen blocked the signal. The 2720 manages to 'see through' this. I don't know if this coated windscreen is only fitted to higher spec 306s (the Meridian has a few extras like air con, allow wheels and CD player etc).

Bumkin.

Thanks again.

I have the LX version of the 306.(Air con, leccy windows(front), plain wheels, originally cassette but changed it to Cd player.)

The dash does slope a heck of a lot compared to my previous car Astra (K reg).

I will try the stuff(or similiar) as you suggest as I only tried it once with full assembly on mine. I have had it wedged against the screen (middle of wipers area) that's when I noticed I may not be getting a true reading on the North position and arrow of direction,,, Must admit I don't look constantly at the thing. From the bike experience I learnt to listen to commands and not look.
