Streetpilot 3 fault

Got a street pilot 3 been fine since i got it but wouldnt turn on or work with batteries today - changed batteries- yes they are the right way round! ;) - but wont work at all on batteries but still works on car/bike power??

anyone had similar problem?
 
don't know sod all about this unit myself, but just an idear, dose it have a switch that needs turning on to go from one type of power to another, ???

Yup - mine does exactly the same. If you wiggle the batteries around it sometimes works. I've given up using batteries now - if I need power in the house to download maps, routes etc, I use a combined portable compressor/battery pack thing with a combined power/data lead plugged in.
 
Don't fear boy's, I know the problem, it's not the battery's, If you open the unit up, inside the circuit board is screwed to the battery compartment, the unit takes it's power through these screws (2no. one pos+, one neg-) on to the circuit board you will find that one or both are loose, only attempt if out of warranty all usual disclaimers apply. If you have any questions please ask away, if I get enough response I may open up my unit again to show you which screws to check!
Edit: For a small fee I will undertake this task for you!

cheers was a loose screw inside unit- shhh dont tell Garmin!
