I have fitted some engine bars and on one side the rear mounting bolt seems to have stripped - not sure why as I didn't overtighten at all. Anybody have any experience with sorting this?

Repaired loads of stripped threads, but not on a GS (thankfully).

Sounds like you need a Helicoil thread insert kit (or similar brand).

You'll probably need to support the engine on blocks and swing the rear subframe back to get access for drilling with the correct Helicoil drill bit then tapping out the hole and inserting the thread insert. If it is a blind hole (I believe it is) then you'll have to be very careful to use a depth stop on the drill bit as they can snatch and go too deep very quickly (almost instantly and uncontrollably) in soft alloys.

First step will be to identify the size of the Bolt/thread pitch then work out a repair plan from there.

Good luck.
