Hi all , need some advice for those in the know.

I have a 2022 1250gs with 37,000 miles on the clock . Over the last 3-4 months i have noticed that what was a buttery smooth gears i am now feeling a notch when changing up and down the box. Sometimes i get a nice change but more bad than good these days sometime a mis gear or even a crunch.
So far have checked the gear linkage for stiction and also check for clutch drag and slippage . all are fine from what i can see.
Thought maybe linked to gear assist pro so did transmission and assist relearn . still no change .
Would say bike is slightly better when stone cold.

Not sure where to go next or what to check , and if honest dont want to do the dealer route unless i can help it. Any tip advise would be greatly appreciated .Or worst case anyone know of a good BMW tech in Essex/south of England area could be a last resort.

Thx in advance J,

Alternately, try Paul at MotoDP, Rayleigh - BMW approved and has a reputation second to none locally - you can reach Paul on 07738 161707

UPDATE !!! Clutch fluid change and bled. Engine oil and filter change. Gear linkage cleaned and lubricated. Transmission adaptations reset and re-learned with Motoscan. No clutch slip, although a small amount of clutch drag when on stand and i hit 1st gear . Can stop wheel from spinning with a little force. I am thinking new clutch next as run out of ideas and cant think of any other routes . Unless anyone out there can offer new information

Have you ridden it? Still poor shifting?

Yep ride to work today , I think oil change made a tiny improvement . But still getting poor shifts where it feels like clutch is not engaging correctly , especially going up the box . Down is better ..

BMW dealers replace the shaft drive unit on 1200 and 1250 water boxers for free every 36,000 miles. Its claimed to be merely a precaution, but it could easily be where the roughness comes from.

NB on the 1300 models this is chargeable to the customer!

Hey RS shaft already replaced last December , so happy that's not the issue . 👍

It does seem to coincide to when the shaft was changed though, 3-4 months ago? I'm clutching at straws really, I can't see how a supposedly new shaft could cause an issue, can't really install one wrong as far as I know but, it does seem a coincidence.

Did you get to the bottom of this , had me shaft done few weeks back and finding the gear change very notchy especially beyond second.

Never did NO.. I'm sorting of used to it now, It hasnt got any better or worse , so left it and just ride as normal . Everyone and then I get a really bad change which reminds me . But I just accepted the other notchy/clunky shifts . Now at 47000 miles for ref.

I will endeavor to sort this. It's too fresh for me. Not happy at all. I've found myself travelling at speed away from lights and I should be in 4th but still on second clutch in but rolling and fighting with the gear shift to click upwards where I want it.

Absolutely takes the gloss off how well it worked.

I'm guessing the gear oil was changed with the driveshaft swap so I doubt that's a fix.

Maybe your right the clutch could be not ok anymore with the crisp gears on the shaft 🤷

Check for severe clutch drag , ie when you select 1st gear is bike trying to edge forward .. ? If not while on the bike you can try on centre stand briefly . Start bike on centre stand , clutch in select first and gently let clutch out , then clutch in and use sole of boot or heel to press against side wall of rear tire to slow and stop wheel. You will feel if too strong , but you should be able to stop it . If not you may have clutch drag. Also as said earlier get someone with hex or motoscan and reset shift assist and transmission adaptations .

Never had nor wanted an 1150 , so unclear why that would be a thing. Does the 1150 not have a clutch on it ? Interesting news. I must look into this infinity motorcycle.. ..
does your bike have a wet , multi plate clutch ? ( 1150's have a dry diaphragm clutch ) . if your clutch has a basket , that the basket has wear in the fingers , making actuation "notchy " . so you don't get a clean lift , on the flip side , you may not get a clean engagement which you will notice , as a jerky take off from a standstill . it will affect your gearchange.

wear is a slow process. until , all of a sudden it isn't.
