Stuck in 6th gear

Good luck for a speedy recovery Chris,at least you will know everything has been rebuilt for Alaska.

So Mr. Chris
How is everything going with that her box , are you winning ?
I hope that everything goes well:)

Replacement gearbox on it's way from Motorworks and the old one on it's way to Scrimiger for a rebuild. I just don't have the time to wait for him to do it so I have to suck up the cost. It does mean I'll have a nice rebuilt box on the shelf just in case:thumb

Seems that 6th gear just disintegrated and spread itself all over the inside:eek: Never heard of this before so I guess it's just one of those things and at least she'll be 100% for Alaska and the next 70,000 glorious miles which is the most important thing.:D

Great work rudiemoto, above and beyond the call of duty.:bow I can't recommend him and the lads at Adventure Bike Warehouse high enough:thumb

Kind of bad luck and good luck all rolled into one if you see what I mean Chris. :eek

Bummer about the cost, but better happen at home than far far away. ;)

Just keep feeding Jono pies until he sorts it mate :)

Hope its not too much of a drama,

I agree entirely on the age thing, my GSA now has 42 k on it and hasnt missed a beat, and it gets a damn good caning too :)

Had Steve rebuild the box on mine, done a great job, I would consider fitting the rebuilt box in for the Alaska trip, a 2nd hand box is a bit of a unknown, a box rebuilt by steve you can depend on, keep the 2nd one on the shelf as a spare, good luck with the trip :thumb2

That would be the best way forward but time unfortunately time dictates otherwise. I don't think he can get the parts until next week and that is cutting it too tight. Anyway, rudiemoto will set fire to the fecking thing if it sits on his bench any longer:augie

Steve did an 1100 gearbox for me a few years ago and it was superb so I may change it when I get from Alaska:thumb

I had a gearbox in the for sale late 05
When my GB failed the shaft and bearing came through the housing.

And you sound so chilled about it too. Like your no fuss, just get it fixed and move on approach. Bad luck for sure re 6th gear. Enjoy your next trip and next 70k miles.

As all the gears have similar mileage on them should they all be replaced, or is it likely that 6th gear gets the most wear / load?

I always thought gearbox rebuilds were for the bearings, seals and maybe selectors and the rest of it lasted pretty much forever on any bike :nenau

I always have a worry with "rebuilt" and "Reconditioned" as it can mean anything from everybar-the-cases being replaced (rare) to some-arse-wiped-a-rag-over-it.

There is rebuilt and rebuilt Rasher and it depends on who's doing it. If Mr Scrimiger has had a hand in rebuilding it, you can bet your bottom dollar that everything will be checked out and it will be far better that the original offering:thumb

the last pic is me not going out,so the pic is to remind me not to answer the phone on a sunday :blast

Had a good look at the gearbox today and as Aidan1150 once said......carnage.

It would seem the dog doo daa failed and spead itself unevenly through the box causing all sorts of teeth to be removed:eek: Jonno managed to dig some bits out but I think the whole thing is for the scrap bin by the looks of it:(

On the plus side, the new gearbox is super smooth as is the new clutch and FD:thumb If carlsberg made GS's...........
