Sarajevo’s interesting Had a few days there a couple of years back. Brewery. Good food. Remains of the Olympic bobsleigh run. Lots of war museums. And the place where WW1 began.
Train ride to Mostar is outstanding, one of the most scenic rail journeys on the planet. Mostar is interesting. In a post apocalyptic sort of way.
Probably not for kids under say 20.
But much nicer than Clacton.

Not that close, but the Croatian islands are amazing (1200 of them and I’ve only been to Hvar). Krka National Park (near Sibenik) good for kids as Game of Thrones filmed there. Krajina fascinating place too - as frontline of war. You’d never know though with peaceful tranquility now.

Beautiful city surrounded by hills, Olympic bobsleigh track via the cable car, Sunnyland play park not far away, great walks around Bascarsija, spot where Princip carried out his dastardly deed and an early morning cemetery trek to find a chapel honouring said Princip.
A most enjoyable week.
…. And lit the fuse to the death of several million.
Indeed, and some may say his shots were the trigger for a whole new world order
Just think, if you'd have gone to Munich instead you could have visited Hofbräuhaus am Platzl and saw where Hitler founded the Nationalist Socialist Party, which lit more blue touch paper causing the death of millions more.
