Submersible Fuel Hose

Got myself a new fuel pump after some ringing around. Ended up with a Meat and Doria * unit that is equivalent to the Bosch 0580 314 068 unit for £42 + VAT from GSF (http://www.gsfcarparts.com/). On the way back I dropped into a hose supplier and asked for some submersible fuel hose. I was met with a blank face, they'd never heard of it (Like the other suppliers I'd phoned before?) I end up buying a metre of SAE J30 R6 hose as that was the best they had. Once I got back Googling for SAE J30 R6, implied that this was not suitable for in tank use and that I actually need some SAE J30 R10? Anyone know where I can buy some suitable hose from? It can't be that rare. Plenty of modern bikes (and cars) have in tank pumps.



* I was assured it was OE quality and a bit of Googling reassured me that, I hadn't just bought a cheap chinese pump.

Thanks for looking, I'd seen that on ebay, but I'd hoped there would be somewhere local to me who would keep it on the reel.

£36 for a foot of hose from Australia, wonder how long it would take to get to me?

I was putting an order into Sherlocks this afternoon and spotted this:

So I added it to the order. The photo looks like it has some markings I can reference. seems a bit cheap compared to the SAE J30R10 stuff from Aus. But I figured if nothing else I've got another length of fuel hose as spare.

No problem, but I'm sure the picture is wrong on that link it shows IH001 hose which is their normal injection hose.

No worries about the pic really... I looked at the hose spec sheet and its supposedly good to 30 bar pressure... should be fine then, as that was my only concern.

Neoprene rubber hose is ok for in tanks.

So are nearly all others TBH.....cut a section across a bog standard bit of fuel pipe and you'll see it's not layered.....the high pressure stuff has a weave in it, but the inside is the same as the outside, and the inside doesn't melt with the fuel going through it

The hose is marked C-DIN 73379-1-8x3-2A-42/10/11>NBR/CR<

Which I can't find a spec sheet for anyone ?

I rang Merlin Motorsport this morning, the picture is wrong IH001 hose is normal injection hose HIT-001 is the in tank stuff. I ordered a metre so now I can be absolutely sure I have the right stuff. The other lengths of hose I have will get used no doubt on other projects.

So if you are ordering from anywhere check the part number

The HIT-001 stuff from Merlin arrived this morning. That's what is going in the BMW tank. I know 100% it's the right stuff. I have a number of other vehicles the other hose can be used on, so it won't be wasted.

In tank fuel line is still almost impossible to buy in the UK - with only a couple of suppliers and nothing on Ebay. As Dr Bones pointed out above, I find this strange as loads of cars have in-tank fuel pumps?

Anyway the Merlin product above has now been replaced with this:

And I found this quote from a car forum quite handy:

"Rubber hose for in tank use needs to meet SAE J30R10 or DIN 73379-E. Other hoses will deteriorate if submerged in fuel."

i had this problem a few years back.

on the bits i tested, the outside was made of a different material that was not resistant to petrol. i bought some hose from BMW in the end.
