Any recommendations for a modest cost hotel somewhere in the area of Tours, Le Mans etc.
date Saturday 31st May?
Leaving Yorkshire early sat am, ferry fr Dover to Calais, mid morning, need a stop which breaks up journey to Bergerac area arriving Sunday.
Travel buddy requires air con, we’d prefer secure parking, not fussed about big breakfast, need a decent restaurant for the evening.

I realise that it’s not the most exciting leg of our journey, we’re heading through to Santiago de Compostella via the Picos, returning Santander to Plymouth two weeks later.

Hopefully enough info to work with….

For the hotel: Ibis.
Maybe arrange dinner somewhere else nearby.

Single stop while passing through France: Ibis. Easy. You know what you get. Some of them have underground parking if you want (just filter).

Blois: Ibis Styles by the train station has a garage. 10-15 minute walk into centre of city - not used for some time
Saumur: Best Western Adagio has a garage - sits on an island in the Loire with bars and restaurant nearby or cross the bridge for more choice - used last September, decent breakfast, no charge for parking.
Saumur, Mercure has a garage on same island. Not used this place but recommended here by Arsey
Tours: Kyriad Tours Centre has a garage. Not used this but a friend uses it when commuting to near Bored-ducks

Out of these four, I'd probably favour the Adagio.

Saumur, would be my choice.

Ether of the hotels that Wessie has mentioned. I’ve stayed in them both and always walked across the river, into town for dinner.

If you don’t want to be too far down after getting out of Calais then can thoroughly recommend Le Bas Chesnay in Domfront.
Owned by the ex-herts TRF chairman and his wife with a proper setup for riders.

Or the Anne d'Anjou in Saumur, which has an excellent restaurant "Les Ministrelles" - not sure that it has aircon though ...

I can recommend this place in Montreuil sur Mer just south of Calais.

Rooms are not air conditioned but the prices are pretty OK. Secure bike parking in a private locked garage so you can get up to 4 in just give them a call and ask them to reserve it. The restaurant at the hotel is a top class Logis Table Distinguee and is absolutely amazing and again price for me is reasonable. Although I have been advised by some here that paying €58 for a 3 course dinner with cheese is ridiculous…..😜😜

It’s a favourite of ours and we visit regularly ( 4 times a year at least) on bikes or with the car. Lovely little town as well with quite a bit of history.

Can recommend Campanile Tours Nord. Secure parking underground. Just by the tram station, food etc.

Thanks chaps, will check out the suggestions
Mea culprit on dates, it’s the Saturday night I’m looking to sort out.
Yes, would like to be some way south of Calais, riding to Soumemsac the following day(Sunday)

My mates a pussy (and on here) but prefers the comfort of aircon, I wonder if the climate at the end of May requires it, not a question, I know you guys are good but predicting weather that far ahead is a stretch!…

unlikely need aircon that far north in May

one of the advantages of Saumur is you can always lob him in the Loire if he is moaning about being hot

A mid-morning ferry from Dover to Calais, suggests that you might land in France around 13:00 on Saturday? Then you hotfoot from Calais to south of Le Mans? Is that the plan?

That is the general idea, following suggestions, looked at the Saumur digs .
However Google maps(not got onto basecamp or kurviger yet) indicates it a good 6 or 7 hours, 330 ish miles. Having done Yorkshire to Dover earlier same day, I’m less enthusiastic regarding this.. will be looking a little further north of Saumur, , crap, trying to plan on iPad, need to find a hour or so to sit in front of the pc. Alencon is perhaps a little more appropriate so will start the search for beds around there

not stayed there yet, but we have booked into the Campanile in the centre of Chartres in May for the last night before a ferry home from Le Havre. It has garage parking. Similar 4 hours from the tunnel like Alencon. https://maps.app.goo.gl/jYNCnW8LWyFJcEDb6
Single room with breakfast about 60 euros, double 72
