For the evening ferry at the end of May - any suggestions please?
For three chaps converging from Fort William, Craven Arms and Bury St Edmunds, I’d lean toward somewhere easy to find, with decent parking, comfortable seating, and no pressure…..
One other thought: depending on whether “Newhaven” is fixed or just roughly convenient, Lewes is only about 20 minutes away and arguably nicer for a reunion-type lunch — more parking, more atmospheric pubs, and slightly easier rail access. If you want, I can also suggest:
- best midday stopping point by drive times,
- somewhere quieter with easy parking,
- somewhere scenic on the coast,
- or somewhere specifically good for older knees, hearing, and unhurried conversation
We’re going over on 24/5For the evening ferry at the end of May - any suggestions please?

I ate here at The Cuckmere Inn in January before my ferry .For the evening ferry at the end of May - any suggestions please?
…. none of us have ever used Newhaven….

But it closes at 1500 , so unless they’re planning to meet eight hours before the ferry sails …..If it’s just to meet up and not stay I’d meet here…..
Parking is right there, good coffee too.
It’s about 15 mins to the port.
Failing that there’s a Sainsbury’s near the port, or a McShits there too![]()
At least there won’t be ice on the ramp at 0400 when they dock in Dieppe like I had

Thank you.
We’re actually riding to the annual reunion dinner of the ex University of Bristol Mountaineering Club which this year is in Champery in Switzerland. (It’s been going since 1974 with the exception of the two Covid years) - that ship has probably sailed I fear!

Or maybe not!Have fun.
You can all always stand on chairs, to pretend it’s the north face of K2.

What is also interesting is that AI seemed to know where Craven Arms is. That’s definitely one up on me.
