Suitable meeting place in/near Newhaven for three gents (of a certain age) travelling from Fort William, Craven Arms & Bury St Edmunds

AI says:

I love its introduction:

For three chaps converging from Fort William, Craven Arms and Bury St Edmunds, I’d lean toward somewhere easy to find, with decent parking, comfortable seating, and no pressure…..

One other thought: depending on whether “Newhaven” is fixed or just roughly convenient, Lewes is only about 20 minutes away and arguably nicer for a reunion-type lunch — more parking, more atmospheric pubs, and slightly easier rail access. If you want, I can also suggest:

  • best midday stopping point by drive times,
  • somewhere quieter with easy parking,
  • somewhere scenic on the coast,
  • or somewhere specifically good for older knees, hearing, and unhurried conversation

You may well need to give AI a few more pertinent details, as I only asked it the same question as you posed the forum. Give it a go, it’s fun and it’s free.

It’s an interesting observation that AI makes. What is it you want to achieve at the rendezvous point, following the three very different road journeys and then onwards to Newhaven to catch the evening ferry? Do you just want a point on a map, where the three different journeys combine? Do you want to eat? Do you want to see and / or do ‘stuff/‘ at the point?

What is also interesting is that AI seemed to know where Craven Arms is. That’s definitely one up on me.

With a bit more background information and fine tuning, I’m pretty sure that one or more of the several AI app’s could spit out an answer, along with suggesting three separate routes from the three very different starting points, along with suggested departure times for each. It might be a fun thing to see what it can do. You can see it politely asking the questions in the second screen shot in post #2.

PS Probably the easiest answer to the question posed in post #1 is: Meet at the ferry entrance gate at (insert time of your choosing) :D

Thanks gents - think I might suggest Arsey’s recommendation once I’ve checked out the website.
(Reason I asked: although I’m fairly certain I’ve crossed from all the other Channel ports at one time or another, none of us have ever used Newhaven).

Perhaps they’ll meet and then spend the next hours having a mean blast / hoon / bimble on their awesome steeds, in preparation for the (fuel shortage) roads of France?

At least there won’t be ice on the ramp at 0400 when they dock in Dieppe like I had 😜

The spirit of Adventure (with a capital A) burns bright on these pages.

Enjoy your holiday.

Thank you.
We’re actually riding to the annual reunion dinner of the ex University of Bristol Mountaineering Club which this year is in Champery in Switzerland. (It’s been going since 1974 with the exception of the two Covid years)
I’ll be on a 34 yr old airhead(DV), the others on a slightly younger Deauville and a new MT 07 so there’ll probably be relatively limited hooning - that ship has probably sailed I fear!

Have fun.

You can all always stand on chairs, to pretend it’s the north face of K2.
