Hi guys...Have now got most of the work done on my bike..respray,carbs rebuilt, output shaft seal replaced,top-end rebuilt, both wheels rebuilt,sub-frame and misc other items powder-coated etc etc etc lol.
Anyway the bike has no sump extention or oil-cooler so wondered what would be best to fit and if anyone on here has an oil-cooler kicking around they want to sell .

I've not been following your rebuild, but if the bike is standard why bother with either?

The bikes an 1992 R80GS and that is another option i am considering(alot cheaper).Put the post up to see other peoples opinions.

If you really want to do it, then sump extender. If going off road, just remember the reduced height. But if you then add some new forks, etc the world is your oyster.

Oil cooler without a thermostat in this country would mean that oil may never get to the proper temperature [depends on time of year]. Last time I looked these were mega bucks
Then you have to site it somewhere etc etc etc.

Else leave it alone, just as god [wallet] intended :D

It's endless ......... :rob

Are you looking for a solution to a problem that doesn't exist? Plenty of us tinkerers have wandered down this path of needless expenditure. If you have an oil overheating problem, then look at the options :thumb2

Think i might just invest in a oil temp gauge for peace of mind.Need to stop spending money on the bike or will have to push it to the gentlemans weekend as wont be able to afford the petrol:blast

If you fit an oil temp or pressure gage and use the bike off road in hot weather some sort of extra cooling will soon follow - ignorance is bliss.

The oil cooler is self regulating, so no need for the thermostat version - there are heat sensitive snaps around which demonstrate this clearly.

I have both on my bikes, and the sump extender seems to work almost as well as the oil cooler.

Another cheaper option is the largest OEM sump - the link to Antons site in the Circlip post will give you details.

There are also reasonably priced deep "Mac " sumps on US Ebay, but excessive shipping charges on the site reduce the attraction.

i have these 2 items kicking around.
not sure of any history etc, wonder they are something that could be used .:)
