Just getting the ST back together after a good clean down and service and was wondering the consensus on sump gaskets? The sump and block surfaces are now spotless after hours of cleaning off old gasket and silicone. Haynes advise thinly spreading some non-setting sealant on both sides of the gasket, I would prefer to install clean, any advice would be appreciated. :thumb2

I use a bit of assembly grease on either side of the gasket - touch wood has worked for me so far.

Wellseal works for me. Let it flash off, and the gasket will stick nicely.

Yes renewed the gasket . I would prefer not to use any sealant but even though i really cleaned everything i seem to get leaks . Ive lost the bloody tube of sealant so i cant give you the exact name but i got it from motorbins. Dont use much just a very small amount . Ive never had problems with leaks before but with this one , bike number 5 everything leaks , its been like a porcupine's raincoat .Gradually getting them sorted out .

Use Permatex supra gray very thin and seal.
It works perfectly and there are no problems.

Thanks for all the advice lads, seems about 50/50. Having spent hours (days) removing all the old sealant from the sump/engine and every bolt thread/hole/washer I decided to use just the gasket. Torqued up and oil added, engine run and seems to be holding....phew. Haven't been for a proper run yet so time will tell. Cheers, John.
