Just picked this one, (tip) up chaps, Apparently the sump guard on an HP2 is similar to a std GS one, although the HP2's is not rubber mounted so a serious 'clout' from underneath could leave you 'minus a sump'?
thanks for that clive , My HP2 arrives later this week and I have it entered for the PJM rally in wales on the 11/12 of feb and I have heard of some sump breakage problems dont want to add my one to the list
All that does is drop it down an inch or so leaving even less ground clearance.
Why not try using the rubber hexagonal mounts from GS12. I think they're a couple of quid each. M.C.
Those rubber hex things from BMW are actually 9 quid each!!
I know this because I destroyed a couple of mine a while ago
Been thinking about making a bigger sump guard for my 1200 - the factory one doesn't protect the pipes and mine are getting a few little dings in them. And the touratech one is way too expensive - 120 quid!
Just got the hp2 yesterday and last night got it in the garage for a look
got a bit of a shock , if your sum guard takes a big hit it will transfer the impact straight to the bottom of the engine and not a sump whjich would be easy to replace ( maybe expensive ) but if you crack the bottom of the engine you need a pair of crankcases . as mentioned earlyier you could put the mini exhaust mounts but you decrease the ground clearance so we will have to see what is the best compromise ---- Gunner
Spoke to si pavey this evening and they only rubber mount the rear mounts so when i took off my bash plate I saw the reason why the 2 front mounts (different sizes - torx ?)are mounted to a steel plate , that in turn is mounted tru a Hex bolt that is quite substantional , but the two rear bolts are bolted directly into flimsy ali castings. I have cut up 2 Mini Rubber in Half and bolted them to the bash plate , and now only mount the bash plate from the front and the two at the rear now only rest on the crancase via the half mini rubber mounts if the plate takes a impact there should be no direct contact with the crankcase , and hopefully they will survive .......
