hot bath and a dram? - or pressure-wash the bike?

The latter for me :thumb2
Common sense took over today. CC and Ronno headed back down the road after lunch and should have made it home in daylight. The frost never really lifted and we were worried about the state of the single track road at Polloch. So we went about ½ way up the track and turned around. ;)
Shock horror, common sense from the Scottish section.:D
Good to see all those that made it, some will still be on the road heading for home.
I don’t blame anyone for turning around today, the roads were very icy in places.
Arc, hope the back is better soon.
Lug, hope the bike is better soon.
Ill try and post a wee vid later.
Now what was that about a dram.

I met Coolcarbon at Crieff and we set sail for Fort William stopping off at the Green Welly, Tyndrum for a quick coffee and to team up with a load of Tossers. We met a snow plow heading south near Crianlarich and hoped that it wasn't a sign of things to come.

I reckon that there were about 12 x GS's parked at the Green Welly and not a sign of any other bikes. Hardy hoors us GS Types :D

The road north wasn't too bad TBH although there were signs of black ice on the Perth By-Pass (a lorry off the road and a concerned Traffic Cop telling my to watch the road surface for ice).

There was a distinct drop in temperature north of Tundrum and arrival at the Lochy was marred slightly by one of us having a very slight off on a skating rink of a road entrance just south of the road into G.C.'s pub.

G.C. had soup, sandwiches and coffee waiting at the Lochy and hot Lentil soup has seldom been more welcome. :thumb2 Thanks to Gordon for the wee Xmas "bonus" here :clap

I had my new muffs fitted to the bike and my hands were toasty warm. Unfortunatley, none of the rest of me was despite being well layered in good gear (including my braw Sou'wester troosers :augie)

After learning that the off road ride would potentially have the Coran Ferry "disembark and everyone going home from there" happening about 15.30 hrs, meaning me riding 2 or 3 hours south in the dark with shyte standard lights, I decided to be a "Lightweight" and head home from the Lochy.

Me and Coolcarbon went home via Dalwhinnie and took the A9 south. I cannae recall the A9 being as busy. It was quite horrendous...

I got home about 16.10 which is only 40 mins or so after the time when I might have been getting off the ferry with more than 120 miles ahead of me in the dark! I was frozen to the marrow when I got home and I could hardly get my legs to move to get off the bike.

It was good to get out and see everyone for the craic and the run itself was enjoyable apart from the cauld fecking weather.

I hope everyone got home safely :thumb2

Here's a couple of photos from the day. Nothing too exiting I'm afraid: low cloud made the mountains of Glencoe pretty pointless to photograph although they must be spectacular in normal conditions, covered in snow and ice.

We all lost the front end a few times you could tell by the pinch marks on the seats.

Feck, it was quite a day, bit like an endurance test!!:eek

Thanks Bob for the bulb, much appreciated!!!:thumb

Just a quick note of thanks to G.C for the soup and sarnies was bloody needed, even though I was the last to turn up, got a bit lost to the Lochy:o and had to phone Packer for directions.

It was good seeing you folk and putting some faces to the names, hopefully the next scoot oot will be a tad warmer.

I gave the off-road section a miss, so I just headed back after the Lochy, heated Jacket up to full brilliant, as Lugs mentioned meant him in a lay-by in his car :ymca :),had a wee chat keeping ma heid in the car it was nice and toasty, here's hoping you get the HP2 sorted before the 8th.

didn't realise someone had a wee off hope they where okay ? hope everybody got home safe and well if a bit cold. roll on the warm days

A tad chilly today, I thought....to cold to get the Box Brownie out I'm afraid...

Had to chip the Salt and debris off the back end when I got home....quite tedious really....

Awfully decent of that G.C. Chappy to provide the Tea and Tiffin to warm the Cockles at half time, just the Ticket, much obliged!

Doubt if I'll be venturing forth again until next year now....

2dilpip...:D

Thanks Bob for the bulb, much appreciated!!!:thumb

You're very welcome.

Here are some of my pics (probably too many). I arrived home around 17:00, covered 306 miles, and have given the bike a good wash.

Strangely, I wasn't cold at all . . I have a 'Chilli' heated waistcoat which is magic. That, the heated grips and the heat from the pots meant I was fine.

First to arrive at the Green Welly was Big Jets, soon to be joined by me. There were two other bikes there when we arrived - an R1 ( ) and a Kawasaki GTR1400 (Ooooo I like that bike - but not as much as my GT :thumb).

DSCN1587.jpg

Soon, other 'Tossers' joined in.

DSCN1584.jpg

Snow on the hills gave us a foretaste of what was to come . .

DSCN1582A.jpg

Garfield still hasn't managed to steam off that sticker :augie Here he explains himself to Packer and Den.

DSCN1590.jpg

Ronno was travelling incognito . . .

DSCN1591.jpg

Until we saw the overtrousers :D Den, CC and Packer look on appreciatively :augie

DSCN1594.jpg

Most got to The Lochy without incident . . Confession time . . It was me :blast . I found myself leading the group and although I have been to The Lochy a couple of times I couldn't remember which turning to take. I pulled into the entrance to an Industrial Estate hoping that those following would carry on past and lead the way. So far so good - Packer and CC took the lead so I did a quick 'U' turn to fall in behind and ended up on my ear. The exit from the Estate was sheet black ice, I could hardly stand to pick the bike up. Fortunately a couple of passers-by gave me a hand. More sctatches on the engine bars but no other damage fortunately. This seems to be 'my thing' on UKGSer outings.

DSCN1597.jpg

More of the assembled multitude.

DSCN1596.jpg

After some very welcome soup, sandwiches and coffee, GC led us to a forrest track . . .

DSCN1614.jpg

The obligatory photo shoot (or was it a fag break ?).

DSCN1600A.jpg

The view from here is spectacular..

DSCN1608.jpg

The Royal Couple brought up the rear - chasing up stragglers you understand.

DSCN1603.jpg

And to think Tash is trading this in for a F800GS :blast It'll be a good bike for someone.

DSCN1604.jpg

Hmmmmm Nice Bike :thumb2

DSCN1611.jpg

Ahhhh - The nicest GSA on the Planet :clap

DSCN1613.jpg

As said - the scenery is superb:

DSCN1605.jpg

DSCN1610.jpg

Final farewells before going our separate ways.

DSCN1615.jpg

In this weather it pays to put on lots of extra layers of clothing :augie

DSCN1620.jpg

If you are ever in Skye and need a bike . . . . :thumb

DSCN1622.jpg

That's my lot.

Thanks to HRH Oonyack for organising the Run and to GC for the hospitality and for leading the 'off road' section. Rumour has it that there will be another in the spring. Here's hoping.

Bob.
