Anyone owned/tried one? I'm still on a quest for a new bike but can't make my mind up, and my thoughts are currently fixing towards one of these (or a speed triple, perhaps). They looks great IMO, and apparently they're good to ride, but...

Is it possible to live with one, without being a complete mentalist all the time? Do they have silly service intervals, anything else that I should know about.

What about a bit of touring, comfort etc. Any good?

And while this is probably a form of blasphemy, are there luggage options available?

I've got one Wanted something sporty but not something that you had to be doing daft speeds to get a buzz. Had also narrowed the choice down to it or a speed triple(questionable build quality of the triumph and my mate being a KTM dealer sealed the deal)Kept the GS for the comfort touring bit. Only had it a couple of months but so far really happy with it. Get a test drive, you love it or hate it

Cheers for that. This would actually replace my GS, so it's obviously quite a difficult decision!

I've just been to P&H motorcycles, they didn't have one I could try out But I did get to sit on one, felt pretty comfortable, and I was shown the "touring" screen, which looked like it'd help a bit. Main thing I noticed was how light the thing feels. Just standing still it feels like it'll be an absolute corker in the bends.

Oh well, best get myself a test ride then I suppose.

are there major difference with the first generation ones and the updated ones from 2007?

Can you actually feel the difference riding them?

I had one in 2007.

The 07 bike is MUCH better than the 05/06 bike.

The FI is much more sorted,though still not perfect.

Bigger tank is the main gain,giving you 130 ish miles to Res instead of only 90 ish on old bike.

Comfort was pretty good.I had a fly screen and it was even okay on motorway at 90 ish.

Great on back roads.

But I still prefer the carbed KTMs,having gone back to a 950SE.

KTM just haven't sussed FI on any of their bikes yet.

And I've owned most of them at one point.

Definitely gotta be the 2007 bike I think, the tank size is really the clincher on that, and I've heard they improved the fueling a bit. Plus it looks cooler. Can't afford an 08 bike so my options are pretty limited!

I've not tested one yet, but I've not been this excited about a bike since the GS, I've just got a good feeling about it. Only problem is luggage really, though I've come to the conclusion that I can weld a rack together if need be.

Hopefully gonna try one out in the next week, along with a speed triple (just for comparison really).

If I was in the market for a Superduke or a Speed Triple,I wouldn't buy either.

I'd place an order NOW for the new Street Triple R,for January delivery.


Having owned a Triumph 675 Daytona,S Duke,and ridden my bros Speed Triple on numerous occassions,I would say that the 675 was the best engine.

The Street Triple launched this year was fantastic for a £5k bike,but only mildy criticized for it's soft suspension.

The new Street Triple R for a mere £500 more addresses any minor doubts,and bascially has fully adjustable suspension.


The standard Street Triple was the biggest selling bike in the Triumph range in 2008.

The R will be even better.

Oh yeah of course, I nearly forgot about that. The street triple R's reviews are what got me started on nakeds again. I was going to try and get a ride on one of them too, might be worth the wait.

Mind you, there's just something about KTM's that's appealing to me.

KTMs are fantastic-I should know-I've owned more than a dozen,ranging from EXC250 to RC8 !


BUT BUT BUT,they are let down by the glitchy Fuel Injection.

They aren't bad,and you get used to them BUT they aren't a patch on the carbed bikes which were stunning.

My 950 SE is perfect and I would rather have a 950SM over a 990SM with FI any day.


Ref Triumphs,the 1050 motor in the Speed T is great,but the 675 in the Street T is even better in my view.

Obviously makes less power,but they quote 107 bhp/167kgs against 130bhp/189 kgs for the Speed T.

The Duke's output is quoted in kw but is claimed at 127 ish.

But my SD was dynoed at 115 bhp and that was with a full Akra Evo system/Powercommander and DNA air filter :

You really should get a go on the Street Trip if you can,or if not the Daytona 675,as the engine is basically the same,but the ST has slightly less top end but more torque.

It has utterly perfect FI,the exhaust note is gorgeous and if it was me,I'd get a Street Triple R and fit the low level Arrow exhaust :

Glad I'm not the only one who visits youtube to find nice exhaust sounds

The Triumphs win hands down for noise IMO, though the ktm twins are lovely too.

This is my favorite one of the street triple so far, though not so much for sound quality, make sure you watch to the end...

P.S. Have you tried a street triple? I'm just wondering if it'll be a revvy little so-and-so, as I really like to have some low end grunt. Hopefully gonna go and have a go in the next couple of days.

Well I've just been out on all three bikes

Each one is stonking, it must be said, they're all great fun to ride. Street triple wasn't really my cup of tea, it was good fun and handles really nicely, but you have to work the gears a little to get the best out of it. Also it felt a little bit dinky.

Speed triple was much better, god I love that 1050 triple. Though it didn't really handle all that great. It was nice but just nothing special in that department.

Superduke... Wow. Talk about chuckability! It really is like a BMX with a 1000cc V-twin wedged in. Silly amount of grunt, regardless of gear or revs. And it was comfy, seat was nice and wide, bars high and pegs stretched out.

I think that's made my mind up :cool I'll have to sell my bike privately though, P/x prices are pretty poor.
