Surrey Wombat Hunt May 13th

Sorry guys, it took me a bit longer to get my pics ready (taking the scenic route from Newlands Corner to Oxford, rushing to dinner invitation afterwards, NOG ride out to the Forest of Dean today, editing number plates in photos, etc...). But now.
Not really action photos, I have to admit, but in the mud, puddles, ruts, hill climbs, sand, shingle, chalk and rubble I was just too busy staying upright…
Herewith I officially declare the Surrey Wombat Hunt started – Clive
No, Wombats were not explicitly mentioned in the NERC Bill…
I hope hunting a Wombat is not half as sapping as driving a big pig through the woods… Dave
Oh, I have actually quite a few Wombat heads on my garage wall… Phil & Wreford Miles

Although we saw a lot of wildlife along (and on…) the tracks, the first encounter worth stopping for were two old fellows who had managed to manoeuvre their car into a pretty hopeless position. But it was their lucky day…

Ok, let’s map out a rescue strategy…
Well, we made quite an effort to improve the public image of Wombat hunters today… Jarv, Wreford Miles & Roy (our spiritual leader on this occasion and at least until lunch) & Phil (in the mirror)
Much deserved (and cheap…) lunch at Vines – Dave, me & Wreford Miles
Ok, you all might have lost your confidence in me (due to a certain event at Guildford that was hinted at earlier and should not be mentioned again...) but you will follow me, will you? Roy
Shall I really?
Wombats tend to hide in clouds of dust…
And they are really fast…
Actually, I heard rumors of a whole nest of Wombats down that way – Jarv & Roy
Do we really care?
Mmm, this will be my 327th Wombat Hunt then without bringing a trophy home…
Ok, I’ll give it another go – said Wreford Miles (hand on the right hand side) and wasn’t seen again… Roy & Phil
And then they were three – only Roy, Jarv and I made it back to Newlands
Are they looking at my bike?
Maybe not…
The end of a glorious day
It was a fantastic day out - thanks to Clive for planning the ride in the first place and to Roy for taking over! The lanes were brilliant, the countryside stunning and the camaraderie just great. Thank you all!
Anna, sorry to hear about your starting problems - you would have thoroughly enjoyed the day. The boys are really nice and encouraging and I would go for a ride out with them any time again.
