Had a good long run to London and back today enjoying nothing but A, B & C roads for 220 miles. However the road surfaces were terrible in places and the bike's front was juddering all over the place on some bends as though the shock was too hard.

Time to make some changes... I have already done the underwear :augie, but would like some advice on how to soften the front without sacrificing the ability to turn in sharply.

I am 15 stone with front shock set as standard (never touched it) and rear firmed up by 4 clicks.

Any help would be appreciated.

Take off some pre-load on the front *may* help a little. Why I don't know, but it works for me!

You want ~60mm of suspension travel on the front forks with you just sitting on the bike with all your gear on. Given there's ~190mm of total travel, so 60mm of 'rider sag' is about a third, which, I believe, is roughly optimum.

With standard WP shocks (05 bike) I ran one notch less preload than standard on the front and the rear pretty much on max preload and 1/8 turn more damping.

Worked for me (13 stone)

I'm sure you've checked the tyre pressures, but worth a mention just in case you've overlooked it.
