The time has come to address some of the HP2's suspension issues....

I've seen lots of talk on the forum and want to try and consolidate peoples different experiences.

1) Forks - in my opinion and for my weight they are far too soft and dive like crazy every time I touch the brakes.
Has anyone had their forks re-sprung or re-valved? If so for what use (e.g. road bias, off-road bias or a mixture of both)? Who did you use and what results did you get?
I'm aiming for a slightly soft road set up as I used the bike 90% on road but still want to retain an acceptable level of off-road performance.

2) Rear shock - yes it's very light but if it ever fails then I'll be riding on the bump stops and it doesn't exactly have a lot of adjustment on it. Also the back end does seem to skip around under power in the corners (typical GS) so would like to eliminate that as much as possible to save a few heart beats:(
The two options I've heard about are the ohlins (expensive but good?) and the White Power (?).
What did you have to pay for the shock and was the weight gain worth it in the long run for any performance improvement; has it nailed down the back end and made it more user friendly?

thanks

Jarv

I've had stiffer front springs and a fork revalve done on the front and a WP on the back. I think we're of similar build :D so take mine out for a spin and see what you think. If you fancy meeting up on a weekend somewhere, you're more than welcome to have a go. From tomorrow I'll be away 'til the 26th and also the weekend of the 6th of July.

On a side note, what you up to on the weekend of 6th of July. I'm off to the Nurburgring as it's open all weekend - fancy coming out to play? In fact I think I'll start a thread and see if anyone else fancies it :bounce1

before I done the tourag rally I put in some wilber springs in the front with 7.5 wt oil I dont really notice it , so I think it is OK

at the back I changed the rear for the same reason you are thinking about ie losing the air pressure and going around on the most expensive chopper.
I am quite heavy and i find the back Wilbers a bit harsh , but I have changed the setting and hope to try it out in the Ryedale rally shortly and maybe it can be made plush again

Good prices from Wales though ?

Thanks Geoff. Who did the work on the forks for you? How much was the WP rear end?

Would be good to meet up and have a go on the bike, ping me a PM and we'll sort out a date (can't PM you as your mail box is full). Or, if you've still got me number gimme a call.

Would love to go to Nurburgring but I'm at the F1 GP that weekend, sorry.

cheers

forks got new heavy springs /oil
Ohlins on the back
Dropped the clamps down on the forks at the front which enabled me to lower the ohlins so i can have my toes on the ground. Have since bottemed out so up they go before the dirt.

Crashbars are a must. Have broken blinkers twice so have fitted small enduro blinkers on back. Have fitted a staintune race system. The muffler now has friggin big dings in it so a guard for it would be good if u change the system.
Bark busters are a must.
