I have a 2001 Gs1150 that has been fitted with the Adventure suspension, when I got the bike the previous owner gave me the standard shocks and I have more or less decided I am going to re-fit them but before I do is there any advantages of the adventure shocks ie quality ect?
The reason I am wanting to change is I don't like both wheels on the floor on the centre stand and she leans over a long way on the side stand plus I am a bit short in the leg which doesnt helpheaving the bike of the side stand.
If there was a signifcant benifit to keeping the adventure shocks I would contemplate changing the stands instead of the shocks?

Baz,
If going from ADV shocks to STD shocks you also need the STD side and centre stands as they're different as well. :banghead:

Hi Baz,

The GS Lite and Adv shocks are all Showas IIRC - no difference in quality that I am aware of.

The Adv was designed to have more suspension travel and the shocks and stands are correspondingly longer. The Adv also has a different (longer I think) driveshaft, and I don't know what the long term effects running on long suspension might have on a short driveshaft.

The short (:D) answer is that you can replace them with GS Lite shocks without any detrimental effect - your bike is just going to be an inch or so less tall...

Does it? Why would it? The only thing about my Adv driveshaft is that it has the 'double key' splines but I thought that was just a passing phase too:confused:

Cheers for that, I am just going to swap them then, the bike still has the standard stands fitted and she leans over quite away on the side stand, and being an inch lower should just be perfect for my lack of height :)

Thanks for all the replys guys

Might be in your best interest to have the original rear shock rebuilt before refitting - dependent on how many miles it had done beforehand. if 30K+ I would seriously consider it. you can offset the cost by selling the ADV shocks, afterwards- if they're no longer any use to you.

having them rebuilt isn't hugely expensive and the results are 'as new'.

The GSA has more engagement between top and bottom sliding spline bits as the arm goes through a bigger angle to get the extra travel, I have a standard drive on mine seems fine and have seen many the same, shafts seem to vary a bit that I have seen with longer end forgings etc confusing the issue:D

The double key is a UJ syncronising guide nothing to do with travel

Weird. I've got about 5 shafts in my garage from GS/A/R1100S and they're all the same. I've never heard that before.

Stick them on and compare. Doesn't take long.if the originals are shite go from there...?

Did the change today, bike rides no different and sits better on its stands. And another bonus is I can now get on an off with ease :D

Hi there,
Any address for anyone that will do a rebuild on the original shock?
Regards
Colm
