I've just been ploughing through the various threads on engine bars. Has anyone any experience of SW MOTECH ENGINE BARS as sold my Nippy Norman's? At under £100, they appear by far the cheapest. They also look like they offer a bit more protection than Touratech or Wunderlich but without the scaffolding look of Hepco & Becker. They claim to mount onto the frame rather than the engine like other bars but isn't it better that they mount onto the engine? Where do the B.M.W. ones mount? Bike is twin spark 1150 (non-Adv).

Got them on my 12, dropped it few times off road they apppear to work fine, the cross bar under the bike takes a fair beating and is a wee bit rusty but then IMHO most would rust in that location.

Bolted some on to sue's 1150 on monday no problems and she likes 
them and you can get to the heads OK good xmas pressy

Engine, do the bars look they would protect the heads in a fall? I take it they haven’t been tested for this yet. What's the finish like bearing in mind the comment on rust?

I have on my 1100 the BMW bars. A pain when changing the oil. Do the Motech bars attach to the bottom od the engine. Can you change the oil without removeing them?

On the 12 they do, but you have to remove the bash plate anyway and they bolt though it therefore no more difficult.
My tuppence...
H&B`s offer the best protection and servicing is ok but they rust.
Standard BMW ones are good but make servicing tedious.
BMW Adventure ones are good but won`t fit without expensive alterations.

Your bike looks like it has been to hell and back...... and I like it!
Oh by the way, I wouldnt worry about the pies taking over the world, sausages are a much greater threat.
