Riding these very roads today, fantastic weather surely the best GS roads in the country, makes you appreciate where you live.
:JB

Yep,it's been pretty good all weekend. We took the RT for a proper run, heading up to Dumfries yesterday via Gisburn - Slaidburn - Settle - Devils Bridge - Sedburgh - Kendal - Penrith - Hartside - Hexham - Kielder - Canobie - Locherbie.

An absolutely dire meal in the pub restaurant attached to the Premier Inn spoilt it slightly, but apart from a little drizzle in Dumfries this morning, we had a dry run home via Gretna Green - Longtown - Brampton - Alston - Middleton-in-Teesdale - Barnard Castle - Reeth (for an ice cream :) ) - Settle - Kettlewell :beerjug:

The RT was staggeringly good at covering distance at speed and extremely comfortable (for a bike) - can't wait to ride one around California and the South West of the USA in three weeks

Cooperman,

Planned to do a run up to North Yorkshire this weekend, ended up looking after Granddaughter Saturday and Sunday till 11am.:D Looking forward to a longer run or two soon:bounce1

Grand photos by the way.:thumb

I'm going to have to trust you 'Southerners' with this......

The best way to get to this area is a quick blat up the A1 (roadworks now finished so it's 3 lane motorway all up to Leeming).

You can head off left into the Dales at any point but the best/quietest roads are coming off at Catterick and come through Tunstall. It's not a tourist route (unlike the Bedale/Leyburn road) and I have yet to meet a caravan :thumb

Managed 200 miles around the dales on Saturday with some of the old boys - 'twas a very pleasant day - lots of GS's about these days:clap

How wrong can the weathermen get. I collected a new to me R1200 a few weeks ago and was looking forward to the Bank holiday when the headlines of -9c + snow over the weekend was announced on the TV.
Saturday was a fine day riding with the lads down to the High Peak railway at Matlock, just a bit cold on the way back.
Sunday me and the Mrs had a ride over to Whitby, just a few snow flurries over the moors otherwise it was perfect for biking.
Today I had a solo ride over to Tan hill, lovely weather.
Thanks to the weathermen the roads were almost deserted all holiday.
