Swap to a XCountry from the XChallenge?

I know what you mean about the rear shock, its probably the only thing that I really dislike about the XC.
I've been looking around, and after seeing Coles report and his use of the Hyperpro rear shock found someone to supply.

Have a look on www.calsport.co.uk it costs £542 inc vat though

MH racing will do an ohlins for £480 iirc... :D

And for that you'd probably get it set up correctly to.

I find the air shock can be a bit erratic at times, and it also "feels" wrong.

it is very linear, but when your a short @rse like me, and you rely on a little sag to be able to get a toe down it is a struggle if the shock is set up how the manual recommends. Even then it really doesn't cope with big landings very well either......

I've ridden my XC back to back with some pretty lairy enduro bikes, and to be honest, it is a real peach to ride. Feels a lot smoother, and is easier to find grip, will go just as fast, but it won't beat you up in the process.

Sell mine?? i don't think so!!:aidan

Eh?
Surely all your weight is still through the frame.
Or is the seat seperately suspended:nenau

As JB says, its a bit odd until you experience it, and then even odder.

Basically any unweighting and the bike follows you up. I have short legs but it sits down nicely when on it. But as you unweight it rises with you and for me that was tricky as my footing was becoming less firm the more I dismounted ...sort of thing. Also this movement caused me issues with the sidestand, putting down while on bike I couldn't do as when it rose it would tip back upright and I was losing footing. I never found a system, I got on and off it more times in garage than anything else. Once I put a tailpack on for tools, hopeless.

For my short legs same problem at lights, standing up when you come to a stop. Obviously fine once you expect it.

As a keen paddler :augie I knew this was going to be an issue on the trails. My Beta is taller I think but although light the X-C is just that bit heavier to make all this an issue.

For the tall or those who don't seem to need a footdown or a very confident, a cracking bike so seems.

Normally I don't have to foot a lot.......................but when I have needed (mainly rocks............the bike hates nadgery rocks - must be the Fi)-I've jumped off and laid the bike over

Agreed on a wide open trail, there aren't many bikes that can stay with it - the way it finds grip is amazing

The XC is a peachy bike, all said and done

I owned one for about a year - now for sale at Bahstomer, Alton then p/x for 800gs. Loved it as it was my first bike geting back into it after too many years. It dualled on road and off road superbly and was always a hoot to ride. So easy to throw around and on the twisty's as quick enough for me. My only gripe was the small tank 9 litres but if it is only for short rides then fine. I hope to travel far and wide on the 800gs.

Eat more pies Johnny. I've ridden a couple of X challenges now and have never experienced any issues other than a complete lack of any rear suspension :augie:D:D:D

You will need to change the wheels for off roading. I personally would look for a shock to replace the X challenges. Having replaced my Dakar rear shock with a white power unit, I can honestly say it has made the biggest difference to the way the bike rides.

Since modding the Dakar it is better off road, but slightly worse on road now. Thankfully the gains have been massive in the off road and only a minimal loss on the road.

An off road bike will always be better off road and a road orientated machine will win on the tarmac, it's the price you pay :thumb

Agreed

Looks like it's £500 for a rear Ohlins:blast

I know TT are not the cheapest, but £1200 and odd for an Ohlins shock, is the shock that MH racing have for £400 ish a new shock or a reconditioned?
Seems like a massive difference between the prices.

Although I only rode the bike on the road, having a normal rear shock on the bike made it far better

The seat height on the XChallenge isn't the issue..................it's how the rear airshock works (or doesn't).

When you take your bum off the seat (to stand on the pegs).................the airshock rises and extends....................so when you need to take a dab offroad and take your feet off the peg to do it, the seat height is back at it's highest.............meaning unless you re-sit back onto the seat, you can't get your foot down:mad:

You just need stupidly long legs like me and then this isn't an issue. I actually bought the XC coz it was so tall ... and then added some bar risers & now thinking of getting a higher seat from Kahedo.:)

Not cheap though those Kahedo seats:blast
