Hi All,

I have at last bought a 2016 Adventure, which I'm very pleased with.

It came with the Adventure Ali. Panniers which was a nice bonus but, they are too big for me in town and make filtering a dicy business.

I'm thinking of swapping to the plastic Vario panniers, loosing the pannier mounting frame and selling the Ali. Adventure Panniers.

My question is:
Does anyone know if you can take the locks from the Ali. Panniers and transfer them to the Varios? Or are the locks re-programable? if that is indeed a thing?

I'm just thinking do I keep the locks from the Ali. Panniers and move them over to the Varios or Include the locks when I sell them and the new owner will be able to match them to their key.

Likewise, if I buy a used set of varios, will I be able to have the locks matched to my key or will I have to buy new?

Any advice is appreciated...

Thanks

Kev

I’d be interested in swapping with you, will take the barrels out of mine so you can fit your barrels.

I think you've already got the answer in the post above.

You will need to also buy or swap passenger footpegs. The GS ones have a prong which engages with the Vario panniers. The GSA ones have a threaded bracket which the ali box scaffolding attaches to.

yes, you can rekey the used vario panniers lock to your ignition key.
easy job, 10-15 min

Changing or re-keying is simple to do.
If I keep mine I’d be looking at Alu panniers as well.
Vario are great but personally I’ve found that I leave them in large all the time anyway so mo advantage.

As they take literally a few seconds to retract I'm curious why you'd want to leave them extended?

Top box is in bike permanently and expanded.
Panniers only go on when I know I need them so are always in “large” when I do use them otherwise I’d just use a Kriega pack on the seat.
Hence for me - the money on the lease that the Vario’s added would’ve been better spent in Alu ones.
