Sweet Gearbox

Engineer - you know it's not allowed to say positive things about new GS models - it just upsets those with the older models ;)

The fact that all previous GS models have had their own problems - even the legendary 1150's with dodgy gearbox output bearings, and stupid Servo ABS to name but two - is of course to be disregarded :comfort

As to my 2014 model - so far the gear box has been fine and makes less noise going into 1st than my Scrambler or my previous KTM Superduke :beerjug:

Correct, but not BMW engineers :)

Actually they did.... but when things were changed that they had no control over, it made things a little 'sticky' :)
Oh no, your not suggesting BMW are not accountable for their subcontractors.......just responsible. You cannot delegate accountability.:)

No answer to that after spending £14,000 big ones!

Funny . We all keep buying and riding German Tractors.......the Hinckley ones don't plough for us do they?

Careful you will get told of for being positive :D You are a marked man now for suggesting that the LC might be better than the 1150 ;)

Really? :nenau

Utter twaddle...........go on, provide some justification for that.......I bet yhou can't @blast

Just look back over all the problems posted about the 1150 and considering how few were sold compared with the 1200 then their reliability record is dreadful - that justification is at least as good as that given by the 1200 haters :D

The 1150 is the ugliest bike EVER produced and that is why it is refered to as 'THE PIG'

It has 'character' meaning it has problems.

There is also the problem of 'rose tinted glasses' where the mind plays tricks and makes you remember events that were a better experience than they actually were.

Say no more as the 1150 owners will be upset and come up with more nostalgic stories of how it is better than the 1200 LC

Apart from a bit of clutch drag, hence the clonk into 1st gear my gearbox seems to be getting sweeter and sweeter as time goes on - after 11,000 miles all my gear changes are really pretty slick both going up and down the box - the gearbox on my LC is probably now sweeter and more precise and far less 'sloppy' and agricultural than either of my previous air-cooled 1200s - seems to me that these bikes take a while to break in :D I wonder how it will fare over the next 20,000 miles or so before I replace it for the next new model?

Wish I could say the same for mine. The clutch is a real weak point on this bike. I've only done around 2500 miles on mine and hope the gear change improves like yours. Mines a real clunk/thump changing gear when I use the clutch....without the clutch it's pretty damn smooth

The rest of the bike is great. Had a decent ride out today in temps around 4 degrees C.......it's the only bike I've ever wanted to ride when it's that cold

So if you don't like it, bite me.

You remind me of a cult leader , I have a letter from the dealer that my bike has an issue . Mechanic is telling me that all the bikes in the fleet have the same issue. You claim that everybody else hear little voices in their head , can't ride or some other bullshit
You have a good one, excellent , as a " whiner and whinger and old lady " I like the bike and I recon once the issue is resolved it would make the best bike I had.
I bet if BMW would sell dildos you would happily fuck yourself and claim is the best anal you ever had :augie:D

:clap

I too, must be imagining the ongoing saga with my bike and the worst clutch/gearbox I have ever had the displeasure of using.

I also, must be imagining the warranty repair / fix that BMW have done for me (still horrendous after the fix!!!)...

Also, the compensation I received and the apology from them, and the other GS riders I have met at both Rainbow and Pidcock getting their "fix" done on their machines too....

Did you test ride an LC before you purchased one?
What was its gearbox like?
I assumed that you thought the gearbox was OK after your test-ride?
Was your gearbox 'faulty' from the moment you picked up the bike?
Why does this problem appear to be overwhelmingly limited to this site and the UK?

I don't know about anals - share your experiences with the rest of us.

Have any bikes been 'fixed'? to the owners' satisfaction?

Bizarre, you seem to have your head so far up your arse , I thought you must be an expert .
My pardon:blast .
Ref. your request about my test ride etc. I had my say in an other thread , regurgitating the same story is getting boring. I shall let you know when the problem is fixed ( or not ), remember I do not slag the bike, but as a package is not finished .
What gets on my left nipple is the minority satisfied owners ( good luck for them ) that can't/will not accept that there is an issue...

If there is a real problem and BMW cannot fix it to your satisfaction in a reasonable time then return the bike - if as you claim all the bikes at your dealer have the same issue then I suggest that you give up with the LC, reject it as being no good and then go buy another bike - simples.

Mmmm....in fact exactly the same debate is progressing on the German Forums (I used to live there and try to keep up the language) with all the same attitudes displayed here...one of the threads was keeping a log of bikes returned to dealer for modifications...again: very mixed results and pretty much the same story as here. One German apologist suggested simply ignoring neutral and first altogether as the awesome torque of the LC meant moving off in 2nd was perfectly OK and he found that worked for him. Hilarious. Who said Germans have no sense of humour?

I have no axe to grind re the new GS. I had two R1200GS hexheads (both the same year). One was probably the best bike I have ever owned (sadly written off by a white van). The other was, by a significant margin, the worst bike I have ever owned. While owning my first (almost flawless) GS, I always tended to attribute hexhead issues reported on here to the lack of experience/ knowledge or the unrealistic expectations of the rider. That somewhat patronising attitude seriously came back to bite me in the arse with Hexhead 2: it developed ever niggle available.
