Swing arm bolts cap greif

Have you checked if they will spin off?

Could be a long shot but there may be a hidden bolt machined behind the cover.

Mine has a hole for a retaining bolt.

Clamp a round jawed molegrip to the edges of the cover and knock it out, it may even just pull out.

Thank you all for taking the time, I shall give everything suggested a go and report back in the coming days with tears of joy or sadness.

What I recall the previous owner had said that they had an o-ring so hopefully they will come off eventually.

I am going to start with a 3mm drill through the center and see how thick they are, tap it and put a bolt in and see if I can tease it off.

If that fails shall see if I can get hold of a pair of round mole grips.

Again thanks to you all

A sharp dot punch (60 degree point) and a good whack! Damage can be hidden at bottom on refit with copaslip. And good luck with it.

Sod drilling and farting about on a simple push fit cover.... looking at your picture you should be able to lever the cap off with a flat bladed screwdriver or small bolster chisel. It's not a delicate piece of china, it's a heavy metal object. :D

I have tried a screwdriver and a chisel but failed they are stuck propper and may even be almost solid stainless, perhaps i need to go to the bigger hammer drawer. My fear is doing damage to the frame.

I think that's unlikely. They HAVE to be a push fit, like the oem plastic caps? Get a dremel with a cutting disc and cut a nick into the circumference. Just enough to give you purchase for a small chisel. Then tap the circumference in both directions to loosen it or give you greater purchase for a pair of mole grips. Any minor damage to the frame can be repaired with a chisel and a file.

Yep, that’s a slide hammer, one of the caps to the left of the handle will have a hole so that you can tighten a self tapper to the hammer, there are even some suitable looking screw type things to the right of the handle

These are usually used by panel beaters for pulling dents out etc and by scrotes for pulling ignition barrels out before we had start/stop buttons

That type of slide hammer is a but crude,

Modern ones have a semi blind cup/ hook arrangement that plastic type nipples fit into.

You apply hot glue to the nipple end and glue it to the panel you want to pull, hook into the puller and either use the weight to its full extent or gently to lightly move remove small dents.

The nipple come off the panel one a small amount of iso/ water is applied

They used to use the same technique but with what looked like nails that you would effectively spot weld to the panel

Yup they look like little Spam tin keys, they leave a weld mark so the panel has to be sanded,

the hot glue allows dents to be pulled on painted surfaces, with out the need for an expensive panel paint

Watching an experienced spangler at work is something to see

One down one to go. Bought a crappy inner bearing puller with slide hammer and got one out. Will need a couple of swing arm bolts as slightly drilled onto them as the F*****G thing was only about 1mm from the bolt. Weighed in at 100 grammes of solid stainless oh and not an o ring in sight.

Feeling a little happier but not looking forward to other side.

Thank you all for the tips as would still be figuring it out.

I was thinking about making some pivot covers like these but in aluminium alloy and I’d also thought that an O ring would be a good way to get them to ‘grip’ as well as preventing direct contact between the aluminium and steel.

After reading this tale of woe I may have had second thoughts had I not already decided that I’m really not that bothered and I’m happy enough with the original plastic ones!
