My rear suspension on my 1150 GS was creaking yesterday from the area of the swinging arm pivot. The bike is fitted with Ohlins.

On returning home I sprayed the area liberally with WD40 and the creaking has now gone (temporarily?)

I am considering stripping removing the lower suspension bolt and greasing it, but there is no mention that this is required in my Crymer Workshop Manual.:nenau

It may be a silly question, but does the suspension move on this bush, and is greasing it a good idea?

Let the p*$$ taking begin!

It's the paralever bearings. They creak when they've had enough. :D

Thanks for that.

The paralever bearings were replaced recently by a highly rated local independent.

The thing is that the creaking stopped when I applied WD40 to the area where the suspension joins the swinging arm.

They do creak. I've just had my Ohlins serviced and they had to replace the bottom bearing - it was pretty cheap - or at least cheaper that I thought it would be. FTR serviced back and front and replaced the bearing for about £230.

I find the main swing arm bearings creak more than the paralevers:)

Ohlins Bottom Spherical Bearing

Could possibly be your bottom Ohlins bearing - I've had this happen twice - and first time it happened I wasted a load of time checking /lubing paralever pivot bearings and swinging arm bearings.
Second time it happened I knew what was up. If it starts to "creak" again get assistance to work the back of the bike up and own while you hold your fingers against the Ohlins spring - if the creak is coming from the shock you will be able to "feel" the creak through your fingers on the Ohlins.
The first time it happened I ordered the parts from Kais - but fairly pricey. Last time I found an off-road dealer in UK who stocked the bearing and seals - I think this is the bearing - check sizes though! - you also need two of the felt seals.

Many thanks Grizzly, I think you have got it!

When we stoped for the compulsory brew, we did exactly that and the creak could be felt through the springs.:thumb

Cheers
