I will be passing through Switzerland next month on my way to Italy, I have got my Swiss vignette, question is how do I attach it to my bike ?
Do I stick it on the inside of the screen or on the outside, will it fall off or go all soggy if it gets wet ? or should I get a second tax disc holder and put it in that and then fix that to the bike ?

stick it on the inside of your screen. it won't mind getting a bit wet & it won't fall off.

its plastic, not paper.

if u have a 1200, stick it on the mud catcher on the rear wheel, as you are just passing thru switzerland, i wouldnt have bothered buying one.

+1, have just left Switz and back in France now... Everyone I knows that lives there told me to ignore it if on short stay... I blagged it at Basel border crossing saying I won't use motorways and no bother he waved me through.... Never been challenged after that either on motorways or leaving Swiss.... Exactly as local friends predicted!! :nenau:nenau

I want one by end of first week of July so if you stick it on over vaseline it'll come off again and I'll give you a fair price for it :thumb

Be careful with that. I was stopped in Austria last month by the Kontrolle (where they filter ALL the traffic off the motorway and check everybody) The cop opened the passenger door and even though the Vignette was in date and correct he scratched the corner of it just to check that it was properly adhered to the window. Normally I would think that is an odd thing to do but I immediately sussed that the Vaseline crowd have probably prompted such an action

Last year a number of people who purchased vignette's didn't display them but kept them handy in their tank bags and on our return passed the vignette on to others who were heading off on similair trips.
Most asked for a small donation to made to a charity of there choice others asked for a small reimbursement of the initial outlay.

Never bought one.. but then the idea of travelling to switzerland to use the motorways is personally offensive. :D

I'm going to pick the wife up at Geneva airport then back into France to Thon le Bains to the start of route des grande alpes. Would I need to buy one for that? Will be in Switzerland for about 3 hrs!

That's where I first got stiffed for a Vignette back in 2000. I was working in Meribel and I had to drop some passengers off on the Swiss side. The bastards made me buy a whole year Vignette for a Van when I was literally going to be in the country for 20 minutes.

geneva airport is divided into two halves (with two entrances).

one is in switzerland, and one in france. just use the french side.

IIRC the swiss motorway is pretty hard to avoid if leaving by the swiss side.

Its your risk, but personally I wouldn't buy one for a trip of that duration.

Put it in your wallet, nice and dry there:D

Then you can give it away here when you get home;)

We were stopped exiting the m/way into Basel and the Police asked where my Vignette was, I said my wallet and he waived me through:thumb

You were lucky, not displaying the vignette is the same offence as not having one.

That's the exception rather than the rule. I watched a Bulgarian in front of me get busted in Austria for the same thing. The Vignette was in a coin tray, loose in the car but not stuck to the window. He got busted anyway. Pleading ignorance will get you so far but as Austria and Switzerland are transit countries they hear all the excuses all the time and they love nothing more than busting Auslnaders :ronno, Especially the old enemy :thumb

Is it just for the motorway? Can I put it under the clear plastic cover on the tank bag and still be legal or does it have to be stuck on? According to google maps I will be on the motorway for 550 meters!!! :blast

It is for the motorway. Some tunnels in Austria charge extra on top of the Vignette. Two in particular that run from Linz to Graz.

You are only Legal when it is stuck to the windscreen of your car or on a clearly visible portion of the front of your bike. Is there no way you can avoid being on the motorway if you are doing such a small stretch? :nenau

Your chances of being stoppd in 550m are close to zero. I'm not sure whether you're talking about switzerland or austria. In switzerland I wouldn't even consider buying an annual vignette for a few kilometers. In austria, I might.
