Switch gear stopped working when bike is running

Yes it must be a spike as the gs911 recorded it a few times at between 17.7 volts and 18.2 volts but don't know why this is ? as when you do a live check on the alternator is charging around 13.3 volts on tick over and goes up to 14.4 volts with a rev.

Inductive reactive load will cause the voltage to spike and the rectifier will smooth this out. So yeah sounds like a rectifier issue.
Too much voltage to the battery will smell like rotten eggs. If it's just a spike you most likely won't smell anything though.

Hi PJS, I've got a new battery you can try out.
I'm only er..... 750.1 miles from you according to aarouteplanner, San Sebastien in Spain is only 701 miles from me!!!!!!
But seriously, you are welcome to try my spare battery if you are passing....:D

As others have stated a digital multimeter may not be responsive enough to pick up spikes in the voltage , the old analogue meters are far more accurate. So you could very well havea faulty regulator giving an overvoltage spike but the meter across the battery won't be fast enough to show it. Remember that alternators give out far more voltage than needed and it is the regulator that governs it to what we need.

Hi thanks for the replies alternator is what my next plan of attack.
