Switch off headlight on GS/GSA canbus

Don't mean to teach anyone to suck eggs but I only just found this out -

to turn your headlight off:

1, start engine

2, press and hold indicator cancel for 6 seconds

3, press and hold right indicator switch for 6 seconds

to turn back on

either ignition on and back on or flick dip main switch

& in an emergency it's easier to turn the hazards on pressing both indicators with your thumbs.

That works on my 2005 GS and on my old 2006 K1200S, but on my 2008 K1200S it will switch the headlight off but as soon as you put it in gear the headlight will switch back on again. I wonder if it is the same on the 2008 GS/GSA?

Which other way is there, I don't have a hazard switch on my 07 GSA?

The same switch sequence works with just the ignition on (so before starting engine).

Worth knowing if you have a borderline battery and are having trouble starting the bike

? How do you get the lights to come on before starting the engine?

With the ignition on and engine NOT started, only front pilot light and rear light are on.
AFAIK these can not be turned off.

I can flash main beam or turn main beam on but have NO dip beam untill engine is started.

What I meant was you can disable them without starting the engine.

So, follow the proceedure, start the bike, and the lights don't come on even when the engine is running.
