Hi Guys

Few weeks ago i got an ABS flashing light on my 04 r1150gsa, i had no abs so i checked it out on the GS-911 and it said "defective rear brake switch" fault currently present, so....was i wrong to order a new brake switch??? i did anyway, brand new from BMW, wasnt too bad only 40quid, fitted it today and fault wont clear, problem still there???

any ideas anyone??

Brake switches on the Integral ABS are normally closed and break contact and signal the unit to turn on the brake lamp

So firstly you ned to make sure that they gave you the correct switch?

Secondly you need to make sure that the handgaurd is not fouling the brake lever and holding the front brake slightly on therefore not letting the rear brake signal confirm it's presence!

It's a quirk on the servo ones if the brake is slightly activated the Brake unit controller has a tizzy and won't complete it's self check and leaves you with crap residual brakes

Post the number they gave you here and the last 7 digits of your frame number i.e from Z****** and one of us will check for you?

replaced bulb with no joy, and brake lever was a known problem to me so checked it and still no joy....any other ideas?

I'll ask the obvious question first - Did the old rear brake switch not work, or are you going by what the 911 told you ?

And does the new rear brake switch work ?.

You don't need the 911 to check if a brake switch is working. Try looking at the rear light. And make sure BOTH filiments are operating.

Can always check the rear brake switch using a bulb and a battery :thumb

Though the switches have a diode in there so they only work one way round - so if it doesn't work change the wires and try again.
