Switching headlight off on a 650

My 650 Dakar is the first bike I've bought where the headlight is always on. Is there a trick like on the 1200 to turn it off?

Also, on the 650 where is the best place to take an ignition switched power tap (don't need much current).

I'm not aware of any way of turning it off, which is a pain when the battery is a bit flat

Try the headlight feed for your power tap. The fuse box is a T*at to get to, both side panels, centre panel, air box intake tube, battery and oil tank need to be removed/loosened before you can get to it. Thankfully it only takes 10 minutes with some nifty spannering.

Careful with replacing indicators for little ones, 650 uses 10W bulbs so you have to do all that malarkey to change the flasher unit if ya want 25w indicators

Only other place for a power tap would be rear light cluster (terribly shite design but a peugeot speedfight replacement cluster is cheaper ) or the fuel pump (personally would recomend this one).

Alternatively you could fit a centec fuse panel, where it that there was any feckin room to fit it

I love the Dak, but the price to pay is it is very compact and hard to find any spare space.

Anyway, I thought we'd warned you about feckin around with it, leave it alone

On my 06 Dakar, I just need to take the seat off and the fuse box is easily accessible just to the rear and right (as you're sitting on the bike) of what is usually the tank

I have a centec fuse panel already but it's hard wired to the battery. If I can't take the main light off then I might as well wire the temperature display to one of the small instrument panel lights.

Flipfly, there is loads of room! There was less on the DRZ put it that way!

take your power feed off the sidelight feed (the twin led's in between the two main lights) i have two relays and a temp display wired off there with no problems

Dipped beam is always on, it does switch off when you hit the starter tho.

My 650 single only has one button for the indicators whereas all the 1150's I had had three

If it is for the sat nave try having a word with Santrix I know he used one of the instrument panel lights to make it run off the ignition.
