Morning all,

Just refitted my final drive after it had a very very thorough overhaul at Scrimingers.

I'm getting some vibration from the back end of the bike but the wobbly feeling I had before is no longer there :)

The rear shock has been suspect for a long time now - 94k miles and last year's trip to Russia did for it, I think. But anyhow, apart from a general sogginess & reluctance to hold a line like it should, could the harsh feeling i have from the back end be because of the shock?

Not sure. But how much was the rebuild on final drive if you mind me asking..

main cause of shock failure is lack of of poor damping.

harshness is usually the opposite effect.

if the dampinghas gone, it'll go all wallowy and bouncy.

harshness could be perished damper eye bushes - or something chassis related.

ride up a straight peice of road , look back at the rear wheel , is it still or going up n down a lot.

i had a white power monoshock burst once and you could hardly tell, the handling was a bit bouncy but the rear wheel was going up n down about 4 inches in a straightline and you couldn't feel it - weird

Here's the work done:

Replaced bevel output seal, bevel o-ring, bevel input seal, crown wheel inner bearing, a couple of helicoil repairs (mounting points for the 'fender') and replaced the crown wheel insert (that's the bit that the crown wheel inner bearing is fitted to)

Cost: £237 inc VAT & postage.
