The following has appeared on my computer and I just cannot get rid of it

Looks just like a Microsoft warning - but it isn't - it is a virus that is giving false errors in the hope that you will go "online" and pay to get rid of them

It is System Security Version 4.51 which keeps running on my PC and comes up with a “report” every 2 minutes – very annoying

Looked it up on the web and the following is the problem

"System Security is a rogue PC security application. System Security is often downloaded and installed by a Trojan, through browser security holes, or via other unconventional and unethical mechanisms. Once installed, System Security will display notifications of imaginary security and privacy risks in its attempts to get the user to purchase the full version and may generate system slowdown and instability. This program can be extremely difficult to manually remove"

I have tired all the usual - but cannot remove it

Anyone any ideas on How do I remove it

Cheers

Thanks

So I need some anti virus software to get rid of it

I run Zone Alarm which did not pick it up

Do I need "another" anti virus software

What version of Zone Alarm are you using? The Free version is firewall only.

For Anti-Virus, if you want to keep your euros in your pocket to finance your fleet of ancient relics then go for Avast Free Home Edition and make sure you select the full system scan on restart. It takes a while to do it but is necessary in your case and will keep you from posting about old nails in the mean time - a win win situation :D

My version of ZA is the "paid for" version

Firewall Security
AND
Anti-virus/Anti-spyware

Just do not know how I got "infected" as i am very careful, you have to be at my age

Can I get rid of it with ZA

I am just looking at one of my "old nails" here in La Belle - I moved it into my study for the winter to keep it warm

Suggest ZA Pro must've missed it - you can try a full system scan but you need to do it before Windows loads and I don't know it has that option.

You've got some malicious spyware on your system - a common side effect of late night recreational internet usage :augie

Why do you think that I am trying to block these "oilhead" thread

Running ZA Anti-virus and anti-spyware

Looks as if ZA new picked it up

Found a recommend that says spyblocker will get rid ------- but not sure - but as you say it there once windows loads

May have to wait until my son comes out at the weekend

I cannot get rid of this bugger

ZA Professional won't pick it up

Any other ideas

keeps "hitting" me with the message every few minutes..interupting what I am doing until I clear the f£££ing message

It seems to be sneaky in that it can persuade Anti virus software to ignore it - is this possible
It loads on Windows start up

Think I'll clean the car

Just an idea, may or may not work, but it did for me a few years ago, though with different software.

Do you have 'Spybot-Search and Destroy'? If not, maybe google it in one of your warning-free two minutes, and download it; it's free. The reason being, it has a 'shredder' component, that can be used 'stand alone'. (Just tried it). You then need to find the name/location/path to the virus file that's causing your problem, and enter it in to the shredder. Then click the 'Cut Away!' botton.

I got infected a few years ago by the 'SoBigF' virus. Norton told me of it; put a bloody big red warning message on my screen that wouldn't go away. But Norton couldn't remove it.

I also had a bit of software called McAfee Quick clean Light. This also included a shredder. I found the path to the SoBigF virus file, and put it in the shredder. When I hit go, I got the message 'Could not shred this file, as it is in use. It will be shredded when you next re-start'. I hit the 're-set' button, Windows re-booted, and hey.. end of virus.

I just tried this with an open file using the Spybot shredder, and it worked. It didn't remove the file completely as the McAfee one did, but it converted all the text in to a load of Ascii symbols. I then just deleted the file in the normal way.

Might work, might not, but maybe worth a try...

Good luck,

Dave.

this program isnt really a virus, so you need something different that zonealarm or avg or whatever. adaware is a free spyware / malware removal program that should do the trick, give it a go.

That's a point... If Adaware don't work, try:

http://spybot.search-destroy2009.com/index.asp?aff=103&camp=gg_spybot_uk&se=google

or this:

http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Apparently the last one has been known to find things that the other two don't...

've got both that and Spybot; run them both once a week.

Dave.
