Three of us, all BMW all reset our trip meters. then rode to spain and back. During the trip i noticed my Miles were higher than the other two, After the trip (2800 miles) i had done 160 miles more.

Is this exceptable, or should i get it re-calibrated.

My Bike now shows 25000 miles on the clock, but in reality, this is somewhat less!

It must be 'cos you ride faster as well Nige ;)

(Erm...serious actually.....the GS speedo drive is known to be wrong by 10% .....so you'll always have roughly a 10% discrepancy against more accurate odometers and if you'd looked at their speedo's yours would have been showing thatyou were 10% faster as well)

You can change the speedo drive with one from an RT (IIRC) to get it accurate, orjust deduct 10% from your mileage for servicing needs etc ;)

Cheers for that bill, :thumb (One of the other bikes was a 1200GS,) at least this way i should never get a flash from a Camera :rob

Pedantic anorak time..........it`s odometer.....not tachometer.

The differences will be due to production tolerance differences combined with the fact that no two machines will be on EXACTLY the same lines, hence they travel slightly different distances on the same route,as well as the effects of different tyre rolling circumferences.

correct

wrong - in this instance - Bill is right. ( although correct generally - maybe 1 or 2 % ?) :) )

The odometer drive comes off the speedometer cable and the speedo over reads by up to 10% as a legal requirement. I just did a trip which was either 1523 miles by the odometer or 1436 by the GPS. I guess it was really somewhere in the middle, tending towards the GPS figure.

See this thread for another discussion around this.
