I`m looking at buying a tail pack or soft luggage to fit onto the rack.
Any opion or advice on the matter would be gratefuly recieved.

Depending on size, I got a Gelert 65 litre bag, I ordered the 45 but it was out of stock so they sent the 65 for the same price. It's very robust as well.
I also looked at Ortlieb and other such brands.

Dave, while lurking around eBay recently I saw a rear cover for sale (the plastic bit that the rear seat fits onto). I thought this would be a handy item to modify.
Cut a long story......I won it for 99p! bolted on some anchor loops with large washers underneath to prevent the plastic fracturing & now I have a decent rear platform to go touring with.
My tail pack now sits lower due to not using the rear seat & I can secure it without having to pass the bungees under the subframe. Looks v.neat & is v.secure.
The rear seat can't be fitted 'cos the loops get in the way but I still have my std cover safe in the loft.

I use an Oxford Products, Humpback tank bag as a tail pack. It bungees on the back rack/seat easily and can carry enough kit for a weekend away, when expanded.

*Cheeky advert disguised as advice* 
I have some ortlieb waterproof soft panniers that I used on my old Ducati Monster. Kept everything dry, a doddle to fit and in black to match all bikes. They are surplus to requirements as my GS came with a set of Varios. They are the ones from Hein Gericke and cost £100. You could PM if you were interested....

Oxford tank bags are good, seconded, they make for great tail bags. Oxford lifetime tailpacks aren't though. They are useful and are generally great quality, but as soon as it rains and you whip out the waterproof cover they're useless.
70mph on the motorway and the waterproof cover filled up with air and was flapping about like mad. I stopped just in time to stop it blowing off completely and tried to adjust it 3 times, then just gave up and let my stuff get wet instead
I love the lifetime sport tank bag though. Stick it on your pillion seat and you've got a great backrest too

It depends on what exactly you want.
I used a Ventura luggage system on various bikes. Pricey but really good kit.
Easy to put on and off and does exactly what it says on the tin.
I believe Sgt Pluck of this parish used it on his adventure?

Not sure what model bike you own, but I am happy with my 19L BMW Softbag. Comes with a sleeve to slide over the rack and straps. Is waterproof and quite tough. Is compatible with F800's and 1200 GS + GSA.
And heres me thinking that Hondas Goldwing uses the only 2-wheeled air-bag system!!!

Appologis for being a little vague with my initial post. Its just that I am looking for small/medium sized bag that will fit onto the rack of the 1200GS for everyday use instead of having to use a tankbag all the time.
I`ve used an Oxford bag in the past & like Jonny-L found them good until the weather turned foul.
I`ve since found a small bag on the Nippy Norman site which fastens to the rack so I might give that a try.
Just ordered a FAMSA tankbag which seems very good value for money, certainly much cheaper than BMW`s own, now theres a surprise.

BMW do one themselves. It has a sort of pocket underneath which slides onto the end of the rack, then is held with some clip-on straps from the front.
I've been using one for more than a year now, its capacious, waterproof, has several handy outside pockets and a carrying handle.
And it's not bad value at about 80 quid.

+1 ventura.Worked a treat on my Ducati 996 - better than soft panniers & didn't move around. Still in the garage somewhere, but surpluss to requirements now as the Adv has BMW tin attached. Might get used on the next bike

UPDATE: Another rear cover just popped up on eBay with a 99p start price. (price includes the rear plastic rack as well)
If you live near Grimsby you can even collect & forget the postage!
