Well ... a mighty fine start to the much anticipated Bunkhouse Weekend. We met up at MacDonalds at Chirk. Weather didn't seem to know what it was doing and the forecast was terrible but in the end it was pretty much spot on, mostly sunny with occasional hail.

Following Terry we set off over some lanes I'd been on before, some that I hadn't and finished up doing the Wayfarers. I could only do the Friday run so we split here and the rest of the boys were headed deeper into Wales and on the Bunkhouse.

I only dropped the XC once so I must be getting better - total damage for the day was one bent gear lever.

Some pics from Friday... including:

Doc Savage and his mostly vertical GSA, :augie

Terry taking the deepest line through the puddles

Pipster showing us how it done

Rushy on the DRZ

Mick on the Yam.

Just wished I could l have stayed for more mud and mayhem.

Would it not have been easier to ride along the narrow track to the right of the picture.....:augie

Would it not have been easier to ride along the narrow track to the right of the picture.....:augie

Yes, it would, but as with most of the routes around there, that is not the actual track of the lane. Using the sides widens the lane, then that track gets muddy so someone goes wider still, then a 4x4 or a quad goes there, and before you know it what was once a green lane becomes a 6 lane superhighway. The farmer/landowner/whatever gets even more p*ssed off with motorcyclists than they already are and before you know it there's another lane closed.
Which is why, when on green lanes, you STAY ON THE TRACK!

Part of the fun is working out which side is the deepest, usually by watching some poor sucker, er sorry Terry, go first. :D

you have hit the nail right on the head:thumb. stay on the lane and not pee of the locals off or the farmers. beside the water hole is much deeper normaly than that and i've always got threw them with no trouble, which is not always the case on some of my river crossings i've done :D:Dor a water hole later that day.:D:D:D:D

Paul

a few photos more

Great weekend had by all, awsome lanes, scenery, company, food and lots of laughs. I think that the photos and videos will tell most of the story about this little adventure !!

if I was to give awards out for the weekend:

Steve73 - MoTM - got stuck in :thumb:thumb

Tarry - Best Trainers (eh la ?)

Jono - Best sleeper :cool

Terry - Best Navigator -

Mick DB1 - cook and tailgunner

Phil - Worst Underpants :ymca

Mav - best dakar pit stop after the jaques cousteau episode

Cheers to Phil for organising and Terry for Leading, it was a pleasure to meet some of you guys for the first time and great to see the familiar faces, what a superb weekend, thanks again -

p.s. the T suit is in the dry cleaners.....

OH YEAH!!

What a weekend! What a great bunch of blokes!

With not a huge amount of biking experience to boast of, and having never ridden off road, there were times I thought I'd bitten off more than I could chew. Would I do it again? Fecking dead right! I'll be there for the next one!:thumb On the GSA as well..

Gonna spend a few months working on the skills (or lack of) and take it from there...although next time, I'd like to ride with the soft group :augie at a more leisurely pace, instead of the hardcore group...

to those of the hardcore:

Terry - thanks for taking responsibility for us - You're deffo a leader, and did a great job!:thumb

John - Fecking demon mate! Saw some of those lines you were taking and was well impressed! kept a smile on everyones face :thumb

Mick - Thanks for looking out out for me, and some really good advice! Hope I grow up to be like you:thumb

Doc - hardcore and fast as fook on some of them rough sections...top lad is Boris the granny snatcher:thumb

It was great to meet all the other folk, and thanks for organising it pip, and letting a newb like me come along...

See you at the windmill hopefully!!

Pure Class!!!:clap:clap:clap:clap

Mav is normally the king of water, but that particular crossing is an utter b'stardo:D:D:D

It fools you into thinking you're gonna make it and then throws a couple of man sized boulders in just at the end :D:D:D

Good to see ya all on Saturday night, gutted I missed the ride out though :(:(:(:(

Started snowing on the way home, should have bought one with traction control :augie:augie:augie

Pretty much spot on Phil but I think Mav would say that the above is a more accurate quote ;):D

Quite a a few more clips and piccies to show later :thumb
